I'm seriously surprised no one has mentioned a jig saw yet. They're cheap and with the right blade, they can do wonders!

Another option is an endurance saw from milwaki. Its not as versital as a band saw, but the 8" saw will cut up to 3" thick, it cuts clean and requires no real grinding. I use them for lots of general metal cutting. Cuts strait lines great, portable, ect. They don't do any curves and blades are kinda steep, but they last along time. They really work great.

I use a 20 year old Delta 10" miter saw and a metal cutting blade from Heleta (heleta.com). I had a huge Carolina horizontal band saw until I tried the heleta blade. With this blade the saw cuts 1/4" wall square tube like butter. I didn't believe it until I tried it myself, but the cut is faster and far superior to the bandsaw.

For curves, inside corners and brackets, I use the $10 vertical bandsaw that was converted to cut metal by the previous owner...that's another story all together...

HF band saw. Put a good Olsen brand 18 TPI blade in it and it will cut anything. Dont use Morse blades, they are too hard and break as the saw doesn't have the worlds best alignment rollers, but, somehow it still manages to cut really really friggin straight. Paid $150 and as said above, I would rather jump of a bridge that go without it now.
