Anyone have some tips for welding cast iron?

I need to add 1 (maybe 2) external gate ports to a greddy cast iron log I picked up today, dirt cheap.

I have heard preheat, weld with high nickle content wire, and then throw it back in the oven and let it cool slowly is best.

Can anyone else advise? If this ---- sucks I have an internal gate that's rated at 23 psi which I will be using instead, I would just prefer to use an external gate.

Corect get something thats medium to high nickle alloy (Ni-rod) weld it pre heat the over to about 400F then put it in there and after 10 minutes turn it off and let it cool down dont open the door

I always just welded it and then made a point of not using the weld as a structural support. Braces FTW!

Cast is the easiest stuff you'll ever weld, hands down. It's like joining two stick of butter with squeeze butter out of the plastic bottle with a flip top plastic lid.

Point moot now, the Greddy manifold I bought is for a T28 flange not T3, so I'm going to sell it and make a MADMAX/whiterice style topmount that's the HMT rage these days.

Who wants a log maniifold, cheap?

Its not broken, I was just going to add an external gate to it.

The guy wants a D-series one, not B.
