Anybody try casting aluminum parts?

I have a shitload of aluminum cans, since scrap fell on its face, I was thinking about melting them down and making some larger ITB's and other items.

What kind of furnace will you use to melt it? How are you gonna remove all the paint and other impurities?

Re: Anybody try casting aluminum parts?

i never have but I remember the 7th or 8th grade shop teacher used to do it all the time. He used sand with a touch of oil (I think) to let it be packed and hold shape. Then he used styrofoam to make the molds cause the molten aluminum burned it out easily. He always had aluminum coffee cups and ---- on his desk.
