I have had my smiley for almost 2 years and it has worked great. On the other hand, LSD mike's smiley ---- the bed after a few uses. Its great to start with. You will out grow it as a welder but I still plasma cut with mine.

That comes from when you die, your body releases everything its holding. So if you in a bed when you die, you ---- the bed. Thank you, drive through.

no, i know that. but the saying itself as in, when you drive off of a cliff saying '---- the beddddddddddddd' as you go over. or when you weld the wrong part up.

I've yet to hear someone use that phrase in that connotation

The only use I've ever heard of it was "Oh, my car finally ---- the bed" and the like...

That's the old Riland unit & smiley is a Rilandoff-brand. It's not a new design. All of the Smiley tools stuff is always 2-3 generations behind the current Riland product line. That's why the smiley equipment is normally $100 cheaper than the other things on there.

Some of those cheap copies literally have fishing line holding components together.

Get it from Storts. Unlike all the other posers selling the Chinese stuff. He actually frequents alot of the major welding forums, and he's been selling welders for like 25-30 years. So he's not exactly going to dissipear if the unit breaks. Easy to find/get in touch with him.
I had a problem with mine, didn't buy it from him. He randomly called me the next day & shot the ---- for about 2 hours. Nice guy...

"Now we ship to Canada"

Haha thanks to me, We talked, he said he had troubles in the past but I tried to convince him otherwise and well, He gave me a kickass rate $50 to ship here and it arrived within a week, also a great guy to deal with. Once you make the payment he'll send the item and then email you a PDF with the instructions.

The instructions dont tell you how to hook it up, its up to you to find a source of 220V that will put out the correct amps. I went with a dryer plug from home depot.

The smiley will have 3 wires, blue (+) Brown (+) Yellow (Ground) the plug I used had 4 wires, red, black, white, copper (ground) if you get a similar plug leave the white wire out and use only the black and red and copper wire.
black goes to either brown or blue red goes to either brown or blue. Yellow goes to the copper wire ground. crimp/solder the wires together. I used inline copper crimp tubes or whatever they are called. then soldered them as well. I wish I took pictures but I didnt know I'd me making this post.

anyway my smiley seems to function fine, I have not done any welding with it yet as I'm waiting to get Argon and a bottle. I had it turned on for a hour last night and its still working so we'll see how it perform under load. hopefully its not one of the duds and keeps working for many many years untill I upgrade to something bigger and better.
