It may be a dumb question, but what is the hole on the bottom for?

 

i second that question. perhaps its sabotage

 

I'm guessing it's for an oil temperature probe

 

top hole is 1/2" npt for oil return, bottom hole is 1/8" npt for oil pressure or oil temp as it would be submerged. for now it will just be plugged as the customer doesn't have either but it is nice to have options.

yes, oil pressure. i have both oil temp and pressure on my setup.

 

Why would there be oil pressure in the oil pan?

That is what I was suggesting. Guess it wasn't obvious.

 

there is no real pressure in the pan
pressure is made after it is picked up

temp makes sense
