Ok, this is obviously about my 88 CRX HF.
This car was just given to me by a friend! Gotta Love Free! Especially running, drivable honda's!

Anyways, a friend moved in with me for about a month, brought along his two cars, this HF and a scion Tc, and his gsxr 750, he didnt want to tote the crx back with him the 750 miles, because it would have taken 2 trips, so he left it for me, yay for me.
Anyways, the car is from NW indiana, so naturally it sustained massive salt/snow damage.
bummer.... i have so far ground out most the rust, and have decided to post progress here as my lazy, unemployeed ass works on this car.

Details:
88 CRX HF
87,xxx miles
was white with blue intr. Now is primer black.
and some painted intr parts(blue)
has gay ricer spoiler.
AEM cold air intake
Stupid Sony Xplod POS head unit....
cost to me = $0

needs:
Rims/rubber which has already been taken care of.
5 gallons of bondo....
some TLC
a nice rattle can paint job
and possibly a turbo setup.
oh, and audio!

the supposed stuff:
it is said to have a short throw shifter, i dont by it, dont seem and shorter than the CRX dx i usta drive.....

Pictures of my current progress, none of before the grinding out of rust.

oh, forgot to add.
Since the grinding took place, all the exposed metal has been primed over.
I have also begun color choosing for the rattle can job.
found my base body color
True Blue by Krylon.
also going to paint it similar to the civic in the signature, prolly black strip, and also CRX on the doors.
Just because i can.
or maybe it should be
HMT CRX on the doors!

More photos to come tomorrow.

Yup, eventually will relocate battery to rear.
The rims came from my most recent CRX, an 85 Si. i like the old school rims, and they are much better looking than the steelies the car had when i acquired it.

aside from that, the aforementioned progress photos.
Really not much progress, due to being unemployed.
But it is progress none the less. If only this car wasnt an HF.....

Anyways, i have a thread over in the F/S F/T section selling my 87 Civic Si, and the motor and components that I pulled from my 85 CRX Si before it went on a date with the Crusher! At the time scrap was high, and i needed money. Only regret is that i didnt get the darn roll bar out, and 5 point harness.... SAD :'(

ok, for the rear wheel wells, i have came up with a plan to "fix" them, HMT style atleast
Going to do some thing similar to this, going to have to use them from a ford, or a pontiac vibe, because chevy ones are square like the pics but i think it will work.

Thats just a plastic flar that goes around into the wheel well and screws in. i think that these will do a great job for my application.
I dont want to bondo this car any more than i absolutely have too.
i hate bondo.

Anyways, any FEEDBACK? only one person has said anything.
I know this isnt the usual HMT madness bad ass car bull ----, but it will be in time.

You can fiberglass the rusty sections or they'll just rust over again. Primer doesn't kill rust either.

Car looks great, can't beat free. You lucked out on the intake as well. Probably worth more than the car at this point.

Jborn 03-18-2009 10:23 PM

on the rust spots i used emron rust killer. along with primer. i have never had any issues with rust after applying emron rust killer. its too bad you cant buy emron paint anymore :(

got lucky and my uncle had some left at his shop.

i dont really know that the intake cost more than the car at this point, lol.
the car gets as good as 62 mpg since i have drove it. but usually it averages around 50-55 mpg. Thats with mostly highway driving. in town and driving only in town i get between 40-50, depends how big of an ------- i want to be when i drive.

after i finish the body stuff, and paint it, im going to finish fixing the exhaust.
right now it is cut off right behind the mount by the cat, well it don't have a cat, but just for reference purpose. wont be putting a muffler back on it either.

a side from that, i have been think of turboing the car, but cant do it with the little HF motor, and expect it to last long. From the research i have done so far, the bottom end seems to fail with most turbo builds on the stock hf motor.

I have another intake for it off of a 94 or 95 civic 1.5ltr, so i wont use the little crappy HF one.

and its an hf so i have my manifold..
wow that saved me some money, lmfao.

anyways, hope to have the car totally painted by this weekend, and maybe have the battery moved to the back.

spray some great stuff expanading foam in there then trim it and fiberglass over it,
or just get some sheetmetal trim to sizre and pop rivit it on.keep it hmt

Jborn 03-19-2009 01:54 AM

funny you say that about that great stuff expanding foam, the civic im selling has it in the rocker panel area, lmfao!
HMT all the way.
Might just do that, and then use a little bondo or something to make a smooth surface, but then again, there is too much gone on the driver side, especially by the fuel fill for that, might do some aluminum, idk.

its a crx, do it right
