zdyne ecu converstion with ghettodyne?

could I chip a pm6 that has been converted by zdyne for b16a?

Honestly I don't know...I've never actually played with a Zdyne, and I'm not sure exactly how they work. I do know that there are several different configs that Zdyne used based on whether you purchased the silver or gold package. From what it *looks* like, the gold cuts a few traces to disable the external RAM and ROM, replace the 8051 microcontroller and replaces the external RAM chip with a programable ROM chip for in-car updates. If memory serves correctly anyways...

The silver I don't think disabled any of the traces on the PCB so in theory you *should* be able to chip a silver ECU with GhD, but you'd have to try to be sure. What ECU are you working with (eg 88-89 or 90-91)? If it's a 90-91 then you should be able to pop the 28 pin chip out and put in a different one, but again I'm not sure if they replaced the microcontroller on the silver. If they did then you will have to use the beta code we are working on that has no A5h command because any microcontroller they replaced the Oki with won't understand this command.

In short a gold won't work I don't think, and a 90-91 silver *might* but you would have to look and see if they replaced the Oki 80C154 microcontroller or not.

Re:zdyne ecu converstion with ghettodyne?

thanks for the info mike. The ecu I'm looking at buying isn't a zdyne ecu, it's a pm6 that zdyne converted to run a b16a with a one wire vtec hookup.

here's the page that it's on:

i know it is not a gold one because it doesn't have the plug like it. so i thinks its silver i pretty sure there are only two right. i have two one gold secu and ythe other off my friend with no plug.

I'm pretty sure it's not the silver SECU, it's just a converted pm6. if you check out www.zdyne.com you'll see that they have a page for converted ecus (the one I posted a link to) and a section fot the SECU gold and silver.

They probably modify it and hook the automatic transmission lock up solenoid like Blundar does with his one wire VTec. Essentially, it's a 90-91 Automatic (PS9) ECU made from a PM6. Then the program store on the EEPROM is rewritten.

I would think it would work fine, provided it's a 90-91 PM6. GhD will just ignore the line for VTec activation.

thanks jason.

check it out, it's not looking like a 90s version to me, but I don't know all that much:

you have to copy and paste since tripod doesn't like me.

mr_dr_pep's ecu that he chipped:

Re:zdyne ecu converstion with ghettodyne?

so can I chip the one in the first picture or no?

Re:zdyne ecu converstion with ghettodyne?

That's an 88-89 ECU..

Yes, technically, you can chip it. But, you have to use the A5-less PGMFI code, and burn it to a 40-pin microcontroller. This will take a special adapter for most burners.

But, again, it can be done... just sort of a PITA.
