Y8 Timing

I;m going to be tuning my car this week:
D16Y8 with arp head studs
57 trim t3/t04e at 11.5 lbs of boost
dsm 450cc injectors
innovate LC-1
Crome Pro

From what I hear, the best way to tune a y8 is to set the dizzy at 12 degrees. I have a stupid question...how do i do that? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Y8 Timing

I'm not 100% sure, but i think the y8's timing is already at 12 degrees BTDC, i know the y7 is. what you need to do is in uberdata select your entire timming map and take away timming until your upper left corner goes from 16.50 degrees to 12.50, then go from there.

Re: Y8 Timing

NO DON"T DO THAT!!! :o

the timing maps are very differant from Y8 to Z6 so you will need to download the P2P timing maps or just download a crome bin for a y8 that already has the P2P ignition maps in it. I uploaded a few to xenocrons site that have them in it, that would be a good start to go from for tuning.

I know not to use a zc map and have plenty of p2p bins to play with...my question is, do i need to make any physical adjustments to have my car run at 12 degrees at the dizzy

Re: Y8 Timing

it is always a good idea to check your timing with the stock ecu in and then swap the chippe decu in and make sure that nothing has changed with the timing with a timing light.

Re: Y8 Timing

Beware anybody's .bins *FOR USE AS BASEMAPS* except mine, xenocron's, or SOHC_MShue.

I have not discussed Y8 timing in depth with anyone else, that I would trust an engine on them.

No offense, zc1.8crx... I am on someone else's computer + no crome, or else I'd peek and tell you what I think.

I posted the stock MAP sensor basemap on ------------- .bin repository, find it there.

Re: Y8 Timing

I ended up taking the base that was burnt from me before and saving the file off the chip and working from there.

Still needs some work but so far so good.

By the way, Crome Pro is so worth it. I cant imagine doing it any other way. Makes it so painless

Re: Y8 Timing

Will someone take a look at this basemap...I used a p2p map from pgmfi and added boost and such

Just want to make sure that the timing is a good place to start. would much rather loose some power to too conservative timing, than too extreme. Thanks
