It is meant for mainly Mitsubishis/ DSMs. It is the type of airflow sensor used in them, it outputs a frequency rather than the voltage of most other sensors.

A lot of MAF put out a frequency, but that doesn't make them a Karmann vortex type unit.

No it doesn't but that seemed like a sufficient answer for what he was asking I probably should have worded it differently. I haven't been around others that put out a frequency the only other sensors I've been around much are the Ford and GM hotwire styles. Who uses the other sensors that output a frequency?

Well, the subject really deserves a complete and thorough discussion, but I'm tired and a little lazy so I settled for a one liner meant to make myself look smart by implying I have greater knowledge of the subject.

The GM hotwire style do.

lol

I guess I was thinking of the Ford sensors and somehow carried that over to Gm. Learn something new every day.

The Hitachi meters GM uses put out a frequency, although it is a hotwire style. The old Mitsus/DSM put out a frequency, not sure about the new Evos. I believe the VW meters are frequency based, but I may be mistaken.

Then you have wierd ---- like Probe/626 turbo which uses a 0-9V VAF. I mean,

VW/bosch meters are frequency based.

Read a write up by one of the dsm guys a couple of years ago but i cant find it, pretty much talking about how mitsu karmaan vortex mass aiflow sensors become grossly inaccurate after a certain aiflow, and basically how much they suck. Probably had more to do with the fact that at the time the dsm's came out, bosch pretty much had the market on hotwires (big suprise) and mitsubishi are a bunch of cheap asses.

FYI mk3 supra turbos uses a karmann vortex style mas too.
