wideband sensor ideas.. homemade downpipe dilemma
 

ok, so I have a 90* coming off the turbo pointing straight down.. length is probably 8 or 9 inches total.
I'm wondering how I could get an accurate o2 sensor reading without spending money on more piping just to run the wb o2.
I realize this seems somewhat retarded but my budget is practically non existent until my student loan goes through.

any ideas?

Learn to read plugs and have a few backup motors laying around.

You shouldnt skimp out on the WB, it will cost you more in the long run.

Yea, I know how to read plugs (somewhat), and I've been running a bin from xenocrons site.. so technically it looks good, but the bin is only 10psi and i'm not relaxing until I see 20psi >:D

edit: plus i'm anxiously waiting to throw some bigger cams in, and I need to see what's going on afr wise when I do

20pounds without a wideband and you will break stuff. Narrowband + that much boost= recipe for disaster.

i know brother.. that's the point of this whole thread.. I got a jaw wideband ages ago and it's just sitting because I'm too broke to get a real down pipe made :-\

Just go get some half assed pipe. You need at least 18 inches, preferably more. The fewer exhaust leaks you have, the better off you'll be.
---- throw that JAW on there. A wideband with short exhaust has got to me more accurate than a narrow on the same setup. Just because it doesnt use a nernst pump, doesnt mean a narrowband is gonna be anymore accurate with a short exhaust. Quite the opposite infact.

You can read accurate AFRs with that much exhaust when you are WOT, but only whenever there's significant exhaust flow so that reversion doesn't happen. Pretty much up around 3500-4000+ for a decent NA setup (really depends on pipe size and how "hot" the setup) and since most turbo cars are low CR and somewhat down on power you'll need some boost (0-4 psi) before it reads right.

If you just tune the idle and WOT it'll run like a pro-stock car. You know, the guys who pay $5K to have their idle and WOT tuned, but if you turn down the boost or try to drive the car somewhere it kills the plugs in about 3 minutes.

You're engine is doomed. If you can't afford $75 to extend your DP you are going to end up with a trashed engine.
