wide-band purchase

I'm in the market for a wide-band monitor for afr's and tuning purposes. Anybody have some advise on brands or where to go to get the best deal? I was told of one that retails somewhere between 300-400, does that ring a bell to anyone?

Rings a bell because I think most go for that price range ;) but Ive been tuning with the PLX M-300. It's one of the greatest tools I've ever spent money on. Very simple to install and very accurate as well.

Re:wide-band purchase

How much did the PLX run? Has anybody used the LM-1 before? This is a tool that I plan on using for quite some time, so I might as well get something that will do the job and do it well.

Airtonics is using the LM-1 and he loves it. He made a post about it a while ago.

NOD, I have this one as well.. I'm totally digging it. Datalogging, Boost/EGT/RPM/TPS etc etc, its pretty badass unit. and you dont have to buy the display if you have a lpbtop.

Re:wide-band purchase

get a techedge wideband kit.

for $240usd you get a wideband controller with datalogging built in; cables to go to the o2 sensor; display; and shipping from australia. Then another $30 from 1stvwparts.com you get the wideband sensor.

i bought mine and put it together no problems and i love(d) it. my car is down right now so i haven't had a chance to really test it :-/

I really think I might go with the ghettro HMT style route with

http://www.diy-wb.com/

Anyone made these before, they have some cool schematics, I really like that one handheld display driven unit you can find thru the links.. hope I'm not too rusty on my skilz.

I got the diy-wb kit. Just finishing it. I had an VX sensor for free so my WB will cost me only 40 CAN by the time I have it running. Hope to finish it later this week. There is a few guys that have this kit. Do search for DIY Wideband, you'll find it

Oh ya.. ---- it just uses windows 95 and adapts through a serial port. I bet you could use a 486 as long as it had windows95 on it. I have a P2 233 and its just fine.

How hard was it to put the kit togheter. I heard that it's kinda stressful. From your experience, what are the chances for putting together wrong? Do you think that somebody who is able to chip ecu can put it together with no problem ?

it's not really for the faint of heart; the instructions are there, but they don't spoon feed you the ----.
I have quite a bit of experience in electronics so putting this thing together for me was not a problem, but if you take your time and double check all the board layouts with all the components you should be fine.

Re:wide-band purchase

it's not that bad, just very tedious. Unless you happened to order one when I did, and got a kit out of the shipment of bad PCB's that had micro-shorts all over the god damn board. Anyway, Peter is a good guy if you can ever get a hold of em, and if u ---- it up he has an RMA process he can do for ya ;)

the techedge has three k-type thermocouples; and three 5v inputs for a logger. so for $40 less than the zeitronix one WITHOUT a display you get the whole kit; display; datalogging; etc etc...

me personally i'd go with the techedge (which i did) but thats a pretty nice looking kit; just a bit spendy with the display
