what kind of computer

what kind of laptop do you use to tune your car? i had a 05 laptop from walmart on windows xp, tried linux then windows 2000 none work. i think it might be the usb port because its 2.0 or something and older computers are like 1. something. then i tried an older computer in my car and it worked but i couldnt drive with it to tune. so do i need an older laptop to tune with??

No pretty much any laptop should do the job unless its a really old brick.

Well first question would be to see if your computer recognises the new device when you plug it in... if you don't get a new device icon in your system tray (bottom-right) you know it's an issue with either the device itself, or the wire, or you don't have the drivers for the device. But, chances are even if you don't have drivers for the device, Windows still be able to see that there is something plugged in (just won't know WTF to do with it).

yeah check your com ports too to see if its getting info at all... but i'd pry vote drivers.. but you said you used xp and tried too.. they should detect a device being pluged in, maybe your not getting a device signal?

I dunno man, if you not getting a signal then somethings fucked with the cord or actual connection though,

You have to drop at least $5000 on a laptop, or your VTEC might not be true JDM VTEC. Honest.

i got a walmart laptop. it made a sound when i plugged it in. i dled a driver off xecrons site but then i guess it was the wrong one so i went to the site in its help me file and i dled another driver that said to use with xp. i was getting a signal to uberdata but it was all ---- up . then i plugged it in my desktop computer the rpm and everything worked. so idk..for my next turbo project i really want to be able to tune it myself.
