what could have made my ecu do this?

Look in the red circle, hard to see but that piece and the board around it are fried.

it says Q31 to the left and R135 to the bottom.... aside from my ecu being fucked how do I know this won't happen to me if i plug in a sweet virgin p28?

Also anyone have any obd1 ecus for sale? Anything cheap?

that's a silicon transtor that can be replace if it didn't burn the traces.

isnt it worth the 50 cents to try to fix it? otherwise you can get a po6 from the junkyard and convert it for like $30.

Most of the time this type of failure can cause damage to other traces of the ecu, not just the ones concerning that transistor. Also that happens very often. It is a sign that someone pluged in the IAT plug into the EVAP sensor and vice versa. most of the time the ecu can function perfectly fine, but in some cases it can cause ecu failure.

But if your ecu runs fine, there isn't really a big need to replace that part unless you really want to. Just make sure that you have the plugs right in the engine bay.

iat sits in the manifold white or black plug

evap has vacuum lines is located on the driver side of the manifold

Q31 is PCS (purge control solenoid)

No need for one on a HMT car anywho...as long as it didnt take out the rest of the board, boost away!
