Re: vortech BTM installing on a civic
Connect the Ground to the negative battery cable where it grounds to the body. always. The white wire from the btm is the signal wire. it connects to your ignition signal wire. Thats usaully on an external coil honda a black wire with a white or maybe yellow stripe to find it use a test light hook one side to the positive battery terminal and the other to the wire your testing. crank the motor and watch the test light. If it pulses with the starter then thats your ignition signal hook it to the white wire. The large yellow wire going into the coild plug is usaully 12v switched from ignition. use it to power the btm. If this doesn't work the btm is broken
BTM's don't help at all. Get a chipped ecu and tune it the right way crome turboedit ubergayda bre whatever you choose. with a honda youve got no reason to use a btm anymore. You see alot of guys in the turbo projects on here using them but those projects were from the oold crx resource sight in 99-2000 ish when none of the software was writen yet and noone knew how to chip an ecu yet. |

but you didn't name all the wires out...heres what I've got:(you said) black - ground red - 12 volt source white - coil + w/black & yellow wire orange??? there is no yellow wire, but I have a red & orange,,, I think I may be lost...I have 4 wires, black, red, white, orange black - ground red - 12volt source orange? white? my mechanic came by & hooked it up,even tried tricking the ecu & module by doing some crazy things, even hooked up a second coil & used a test light, anyways, its a points btm, which my civic doesn't use points ignition, the vortech btm dont havethe magnetic pickup,(which I need) so I either need another box or a I could use a 12volt relay...(whatever he said) but... I am willing to try what you said, because its somthing we havent tried & I dunno.... but if you had a clear detail about the other wire....wires, I would give it a shot, I was just about to sell it & buy another one with a magnetic pickup... thanks |
Re: vortech BTM installing on a civic
convert to OBD1 ...

Re: vortech BTM installing on a civic

Re: vortech BTM installing on a civic
I didn't name all the wires because their all labeled and named in the instructions
------ are you using the the stock coil or not? Oh wait you haven't even said what car your Installing this thing on. Give us more info if you expect help. |
Re: vortech BTM installing on a civic
did you not read the title?
it says civic, I have a d15 btw with mpfi & using stock coil, wouldn't matter anyway would it? its the same thing if it was external or internal.... the wires arent labeled.... & there are no instructions, I'm not black btw, I removed it,its for sale on ebay: I have a msd btm coming..it has a magnetic pickup which our hondas use instead of points ignition, thanks for your help man! |
Re: vortech BTM installing on a civic
Yes it does matter if your using an msd coil or the stock coil using the msd coil is easier to figure out.
Look the one you have will work. the white signal wire from the btm goes to the Black wire with the white stripe coming out of your stock coil. that is the signal wire that tells the btm to fire. The GROUND wire from the btm goes to the negative battery terminal. The 12v ground goes to the big thick YELLOW WIRE THAT PLUGS INTO YOUR STOCK COIL. Orange is coil negetive from the btm. Use a haynes manual for you cat to find out what that is on your cars stock harness. ANd thats all it is ------. |
Re: vortech BTM installing on a civic
nah...i dont get that,
I dont have any big YELLOW wire in my dizzy,,,anywhere, the positive coil wire is black & yellow, negative wire to the coil is white & blue, your way may work, but the guys waiting on payment,,,,70.00 shipped for a msd btm 5462 with a magnetic pickup & I've listed mine on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...7649&rd=1&rd=1 |
