Typical AFR's at startup?
 

well i finally have my wideband permenantly installed in my car and i've been noticing that the car runs rediculously rich driving around until it gets to operating temp.

After that the AFR's will lean out and stay pretty steady.

So what i'm wondering, how much and how long will the ecu kick extra fuel into the engine to warm it up? i'm seeing AFR's around 9:1-13:1; then after it warms up they go up to around 13:1-16:1.

I'm running a TE 2.11 ng26 bin with stock D16a6 fuel/spark maps just recurved for 450cc's; and 120% on the boost side and .6 degreees/psi of retard. I just rebuilt the engine and am only pushing ~ 4psi and the afr's under boost are pretty fat but very manageable (a lot more linear from my old hacked up bins that came with the ng2# series.)

The car runs real well but my speedo cable has gone AWOL so i'm waiting for a new one. I'm also pretty sure thats affecting the car from going into closed loop mode but I may be wrong? anyone know for sure.

so anyway yeah; i'm just curious what everyone else's AFR's are when you start the car cold.

its the cold start ---- you can't change with turbo edit (you can with uberdata) if you put stock injectors in it wont do that (considering you rescale.)

its just something that needs to be added.

If your on 450's, yes your maps at idle are to rich.
Unplug your o2 sensor feed to the ECU. Start the car, let it warm. Set your idle A/F 0-1500 (to cover cold high idle) to high 14's .
Plug everything back in. It should only get into the high 12's on cold start.

I dont have my pictures handy, but I was suprised at the amount of carbon build up that can happen in short order (like only a month) when your cold start A/F are in the low 12's high 11's. This was on 900cc Deka's. Uber cold start functions seems to help to a degree, but something isnt right with it.

so does anyone know if the VSS affects the ecu's ability to go into closed loop mode?

also when will the ecu kick off the cold start? does it have to get a little heat in there or be all the way to operating temp?

ECT trim (from what I have noticed) is applied all the way to 180-190*. A gradual taper from about 160-190 is where most of the cold start enrichment is taken out.
This is what I have noticed from datalogs atleast.

All the engine needs to operate is basically MAP and RPM...it then takes into consideration IAT, Delta TPS. Close loop operation is TPS < 80%.

I am pretty sure your vehicle's speed has nothing to do with closed loop operation. That just feeds your tach to tell you how fast you are going. [me=xenocron]thinks[/me]

BTW, my car idles nicely at around 16-17 AFRs while warm. ~14.5 at startup and gradually leans out.

do you have 450's xenocron?

and what is one supposed to do if they have a 160f thermostat :-/ can i just lean out my idle parts of the maps A LOT to comptensate?
i'm running a tuned bin i got from pgmfi (in one of blunder's threads for a d16a6) and i'm still getting 9-11:1 afr's under idle. I haven't messed with it much since then as my programmer is being a little bitch >:(
but yeah; i'm getting horrible gas millage around town and i hardly ever see my narrowband bouncing around (closed loop) like i did when i had my VSS working. I also didnt have my wideband hooked up so it could have been running this rich....

meh... i guess i'll just have crap city millage now :(
