turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Well I got turbo-edit working and was just testing it out on the NA rom, and that 2step feature is freiken awesome! The only thing that won't work for me is the datalogging. I tried both of the stock d16a6 roms with datalogging, one has a different baud rate or something (shows how much I know). But is there some special way to get the datalogging going? I tried opening up a rom, opening the datalogging window, then clicked 'start datalogging' but nothing happens. Ideas?

You get the MAX233A hooked up correctly?

Make sure you used the correct COM port. There is a green power light that comes on the MAX233A.. It's pretty straight forward.

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

What is that, the cable? I had J.Davis set up this ecu for me including the datalogging cable. As for the com port there's only one on the laptop so it should be the right one? On the datalogging window it says in the bottom left "connected"...and the sticker on the cable says rtm60302

Do you have the baud rate set according to the ECU Control page?

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

I don't know if I'm retarded or what, I just looked through ecucontrol.com and couldn't find anything on it. FIA I haven't tried ecucontrol yet...I just tried turboedit's datalogging. Is this set up compatible with it Joseph?

Truthfully, I have never used TurboEdit. I'm whoring the OBD1 lately for Blake.

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

It is compatible... It uses the same routine that the PGMFI members wrote into the ROMs.

All TurboEDIT, and ECUControl do is poll the ROM, and manipulate the data that the ECU sends back.

I don't know if I'm blind or not, but can someone point me out to somewhere where I can read how to set up the baud rate?

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Well, I don't use ECUControl, but in TurboEDIT, click on View -> Options. Then just put a dot in what baud rate you want, then click OK.

Reconnect the datalogger, and that should be it.. No offense to Joesph's electronics skills (because we know he's a flippin' genius) but are you sure it's still assembled correctly? Did something maybe pop off during shipping?

The datalogger in TE works. There is no doubt about that. I've had numerous reports from TE users about it. There has to be something hardware related. Either the ECU, or your PC, I think. :-\

I used a cell phone cable that has MAX233 inside the serial plug. Four wires, easy to install.

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Well crap, I changed the baud rate and still no luck. I would like to get it working but if not oh well :-\

Hrm, did you try an older version? ----, maybe I broke something in 1.29 and just no one has told me about it yet..

Try 1.27, but don't edit the maps or save ROMs or anything. I don't know why I updated the verison, but just to be safe..

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Crap, that didn't work either :( No biggie though, as the datalogging isn't necessary. :)

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Sean, you want to try another datalogging cable? I'll send you my Ghetto-spec one if you feel confident about soldering the four wires into CN2.

Ya, I got my car working today, and promptly testing it, and everything worked fine. I used the 1.29 package straight from the website. :(

..oh, btw, now that my car is running, Datalogging support is the PRIME development point. :D

Hey Joseph, I'm pretty sure I can solder it in. That would be awesome if you can send me another cable. Do you still have the address?

Turbo-what's the set up?

Hell no I don't. I'm America's most disorganised man.

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

OK.. I poured over the code and it's just the same as it's always been.. I don't know, maybe it' snot compatible with your machine? Who knows..
..but have no fear, as I am a man of the people. :D

I integrated the code for the datalogger from the upcoming 2.0 version into the 1.29 version that is currently on the website. Uninstall, Redownload, and reinstall 1.29 from the website.

This should work, as I verified it in my own car about 30 minutes ago.. good luck!

Another thread jack ::)

JD ... you said that you used a cell phone cable and hooked it up to the CN2. Which cell phone cable was it? and i don't suppose you can PM me with the wire colours and some details about it ;D I've been messing around with a Nokia cable and not sure which wires to use :-[

Cheers.

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Nokia 6110, netsearch for 6110 pinout, you can deconstruct the cable and go by pin placement.

I'm all out of them, actually.

Ok, just got done downloading the new version and tried to open it and I get this:
http://www.norcalcrx.org/spoon2/pics/error.jpg

Is this a machine or program error? Crappy dell :P

Joseph, PMed you my address

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Holy ----... 1.29 is falling apart...

I don't know about that error. It doesn't seem like a program error. It's tied to a control used within TE, Try to reinstall over the top of itself.

Maybe install 1.28, then install 1.29 over it. Something is messed up with what VB thinks that computer has to use.

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

i reverted back to a 1.29 before any fixes and its fine :( just no fixes lol

sporkcrx 11-14-2003 11:28 PM

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Ok, well the 1.27 and 1.28 still get into the program. But the new 1.29 still has that code no matter what. The "old" 1.29 was fine so whatever you changed must of been the difference. I wonder if anyone else has tried the new 1.29 yet? I'm starting to think maybe it's my laptop that's the problem. I'll have to see if any of my friends have laptops to try. By the way man, don't stress yourself over this...as long as the maps work well that's all I need :D

TurboEF9 11-15-2003 12:25 AM

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

OK ok ok ok...

Hahaha.. Luckily I saved the source for the original 1.29.. I reimplemented the 2.0 cut of the datalogging code.

So, once again, uninstall, redownload, reinstall, and tell me if A) You can open the crap, and B) if the datalogger works. :D

A opens I cant test the data logger yet :( I have to go get a cable yet..... :(

sporkcrx 11-15-2003 03:16 AM

Re:turboedit working! datalogging help needed

Can get into the program again :) And just to let everyone know we narrowed it down, that the problem probably lies in the hardware. As the datalogging wheel turns ;)
