turboedit help pls.... :( holset and 780cc, cant get a stable idle, base tune.

hey guys, finally picked up a set of 780 injectors for my crx and im getting nowhere with the base map.

made the basemap with the basemap helper, that was fine. but when i go to copy the fuel tables over, the TE software wont let the -31hg - (-24hg) cells, or any cell for that matter drop below 1.08ms. The values that i believe i have to start with are closer to .75 - .80ms.

Is there a way I can get TE to allow me to drop the values down, or is there something im overlooking.

:-\ ?

Does it actually idle at 1.08ms? I rember my 900's actually liked to idle good (high 13's a/f) at around 2ish ms, and the same w/ Leia 750's?. It wasnt much of a redution over a 450 idle ms.
Its weird how bigger injectors respond, the ms opening time isnt exactly linear w/ load.

the will start up and idle fine for a second.

Shortly after it will start to surge bwtn 500-1500 or somewhere in bwtn roughly.

For the hell of it, i took it for drive on my street for a few seconds and the car got to about 30k and it was so bogged down that it had no power what so ever.

shortly thereafter i ran out of time to play with it, so i threw the 440's back into it with my current map and contine to put around in it.

OBD0 ECU is unable to go below 1.08 ms injector pulse. It's on the code-end, but is a nonissue, since short of 1600cc injectors coupled with a low Z driver setup, I can't see the need to go below 1.08 ms. You use a lot more pulsewidth than that with the big laggy guns, to get them to idle. Large injector internals which always open slower than smaller injectors, meant for a a peak and hold injector driver but run on a saturated injector driver across a resistor fuckbox that eats up a good bit of the power that should drive the injector... yeah, they open *real* slow and need more pulsewidth.

Speed Phreak's car runs 900cc injectors, the same as Mister Lee, and he was in the 2.x ms range for most of his idle and cruise event. You can check a couple of the tunes I have up on xenocron's site (880-1100cc tunes) to see what sort of pulsewidths you need to deal with... they are for Crome/Uberdata, but you can view pulse in ms if you clicky around a bit. Keep in mind that UD 1.70 has 16 bit fuel maps and it threw off the injector ms calculations... but those are still within .5 ms at idle.

You can figure all this out with an hour's seat time, ROM emulator, and a wideband. Or a couple hours without the ROM emulator, doing the yank/burn/insert chip deal. If you are trying to do this by idle quality without a wideband... uhm... I probably couldn't have done it my first one or two times around without a wideband to give me feedback. I could do it now, but would rather have the WB to make sure everything is polished.

Hyundaidata had a nice writeup at one point about tuning idle w/ big guns... calc your basemap for the bigger injectors and start adding fuel to the idl and light cruise regions of the fuel map - sometimes as much as 40% more fuel.

ive got the LM1 sitting in the shop, ill getr started with that and see where i get, and yes, no ROM emulator, so it will have to be the yank/burn/install method.

In another post, you were mentioning that BRE on a PR3 was a lot more "big injector" freindly?

Setting that up in the car is also another option i dont mind doing as i have a couple of PR3's in my shop.

Thx again J.D, helped me out once again.

I never said that. The only diff between TE and BRE (aside from ECUs they support) is BRE already has high rpm resolution needed for B-VTEC engines. It's planned for TE, but not here yet.

thx for the clarifying that.
