Turbo Vic's failed attempt at becoming a tuner research thread SFW

Re: Turbo Vic's failed attempt at becoming a tuner research thread SFW
Desoldering boards is such a pain in the ***. I got an ECU off a guy for $20. When I got it back to my place I realized why, he soldered wires into the datalogging holes and broke the wires off. That ---- took me like 2 hours to clean out completely. I was using a pump thingy to desolder. You push down on the plunger to load it, then push a button to release it and it sucks up in one burst. Works decently, but it was hell trying to hold the ecu, iron, and desolder thingy all at once.
Except mine was orange and black.

Yeah, tune your car first, its alot harder then people think especially when its your first. You will run into many questions and for me i have no one to physically ask so i get all my answers on here. You gotta train your ears. Check out as many pics of plugs, learn to read them.... you need to get a good magnifine glass or one of those type you can see down inside the plug. Got patients, you will need it. Mistune someone elses car and you will be married to it. READ READ READ!!!!!!!!!!!! I have read so much lately i think i gotta get some glasses.

I use the old school method. Desolder braid ftw!
I can desolder/chip and ecu in 40 minutes. Not bad for desoldering braid.

well, i am only about 2 hours into my first ecu, lol. not really, but it seems like that, and i havent even finisahed the desolder part. i am going to radio shack to get some braid to see how that works out

desolder braid works nice, if you don't get it all the first try, drip a little new solder into the hole and retry
short of a real desolder station which i've never used, braid is the best.

Re: Turbo Vic's failed attempt at becoming a tuner research thread SFW
i went to raido shack, and i got somd braid, ill test it out in an hours when this stupid desolder iron heats up
but on a side note, i got my burn1 today and a couple of chip kits. so i am going to finish up this ecu and test it out, ill keep yall updated on how it works

Re: Turbo Vic's failed attempt at becoming a tuner research thread SFW
i THINK i got my burn1 set up correctly.
now i am starting on putting together my first ecu.
i desoldered the 28 pin 27256 socket and dip, zip and unburned eeprom
i also desoldered other 20 pin 74hc373 socket and installed the proper chip
i desoldered the c51 ans c52 and installed the resistors
i desoldered the holes for the j1 jumper, but my pin dosent fit, so ill have to solder it new arms
i desoldered r54 and installed the resistor
the ecu was automatic so i removed rp18 and rp17, and added a wire to rp18
i desoldered the 1-4 holes for the 4 pin header. i left the 5th hole soldered and inserted the header
during my research i read something about if i am using crome, to remove the resistor from j12, so i did.
i also have one cap that came with the ecu kit from xenocron that i am lost on. i reread the install instructions on the pgmfi wiki but i think i might be skiping over it thinking i already put it somewhere. its a brown round type resistr with a silver top with what looks loke a mercedes symbol. it reads 35v 220uf kze
is there anything else i am forgetting. i know i still need to purn a bin to the chip
