Tuning Techniques - Part. Throttle Tuning
 

I've been trying to tune my car for awhile now... Things are coming together, but I'm still feeling a little unsure of what I'm doing... One issue is how to properly STREET tune, ha ha ha...

Seriously, I set up my basemap using pretty much the same parameters as most people on here... Half based on the Keebler writeup and half on a basemap from ProjekTeg. I want to work specifically on my fuel tables for a safe and efficient street tune with some power. I really don't care to ---- with timing at all at this time. :P

To start, I want to tune part. throttle? I was driving around for a bit and would stop to check my datalogs, but they're all over the place because I really can't control the amount of pedal pressure. I read something earlier about doing a pull in low RPM 3rd or 4th, pedal down and slowly working up to boost, but obviously not boosting. Then checking the logs. This makes sense, but is that the right way to get a part. throttle sample?

I've been assuming that the GSR basemap with an imported P28 maintains the stock fuel tables, just different values because of the larger injectors, but relatively the same slopes or proportions. So if I get a small sample of each column doing a part. throttle pull, I should be able to change whole columns, right? Because a part. throttle pull isn't going to fill in a great number of cells, but it should provide a little insight as to what's happening in that range... I think.

But doing that over and over should get my partial throttle tuned from 15:1 to 13:1 just before boost. 12.5:1 being the crossover columns & 12:1 everywhere else.

WOT is just mashing the gas in 2nd and seeing what values come up in the boost tables?

As far as basic noob tuning, How far am I off on all of this?

Just need some affirmations, like "Yeah, you're on the right track!" Or "You're waaaaaaay off dude."

Sounds like you've got a pretty good grasp of the concept. One thing to keep in mind is your open/closed loop. I'm assuming you've got it disabled since you mentioned your AFR values are all over the place, or is it still enabled?

Closed loop is disabled and I'm running off my wideband... I've been messing with this for a few weeks trying to get a feel for UberData & what everything does. It's exciting and frustrating at the same time. I get to start all over again... ;D

Anyway, what's the issue with closed loop? I remember reading something about converting back to a Narrowband can be an issue for some tunes... Just not sure what that means exactly. :-\

Not sure. I don't like having closed loop enabled in the first place. It's more work to tune the vacuum portions of the map (and I realize thats where your trouble is), but in a sence worth it. I've noticed with some tunes at least on my own setup that I can "part throttle" boost and still be in closed loop. Thats not a good thing when the ecu is trying to achieve a close to 14.7:1 ratio. So, I usually leave it disabled and tune from there. It does take alot of time and monitoring to get your vacuum maps worked out the way you want/need them.
