found some info, its got a mass air flow sensor, does this mean if i mount it befor the turbo it will compensate fuel/timing in boost automaticly?

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

No mass air flow meters have a limit to the amount of air thy can read. You will probably max it out with very low amounts of boost. Plus I am sure your ecu will get pissed off seeing the meter past its normal range of operation.

I know very little about subarus. You may have to look into crap piggy backs or stand alone ems.

i have an openport i can sell you for reflashing the ecu
but you NEED to figure out what ecu you have.

www.openecu.org
www.nasioc.com
www.scoobymods.com

register, look around, SEARCH, then ask questions.

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

so instead of burning the chip you flash the ecu? does the ecu need modification? or is it just wires connecting into the ecu?

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

i look through all of that everything is for 01 and up? mine is a 98 how do i go about flashing it?

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

you need to find the definitions for your 98 rs

you plug the d-check connectors around the column somewhere, plug in the odb2 reflash cable, and reflash

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

what do you mean by definitions? im only trying to get like 5-6psi out of it because its a 98 gt with the high compression 2.5. do i realy need to reflash, or can my maf compensate for this low amount of boost? i dont want to go all out it just needs a lil more pep so i can atleast chirp the tires.

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

your retarded if your worried about chirping the tires in an awd. id be worried about the transmission if you go around trying to chirp the tires all the time

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

your maf at redline reads what my wrx reads at 2000rpm with my foot in it.

i can chirp my 1-2 if i want to kill my car, and light all 4 from a stop.

you need +100hp to make that dualcam 2.5 worthy

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

im lookin for just under 300 hp total. and i know ill kill the trans, ill get over it but right now, going from a turbo honda to this real machine i just cant help but trow myself into the seat on launch, its an amazing car.

So, do i have this straight, i need to get a wrx ecu and put a basemap flash onto it for my engine (honda speak), then tune from there using a tatrix cable and ecuflash? no ecu chippin or anything?

you can reflash your stock ecu, if you have, i believe a jecs ecu. sorta like chippable vs non-chippable

i never said anything about a wrx ecu swapping into your car.
openecu.org does cover 1998 reflashes. go search ::)

def looked and found nothing for a 98 legacy gt. can i use a fmu? or wil the mass airflow sensor mess with it? maby have to get like a 6:1?

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

why dont you ask the forums made for subarus, and not a guy with a wrx?

You have already failed. ::)

Complex has given you more than you need. Go to the sites he suggested and figure it out.

Re: Tuning solutions for 98 Subaru Legacy 2.5

Some of Complex's info is a little skewed but quite a bit is correct, and for the most part there are no definitions for the USDM pre-flashable Subies that I know of. I have a 97 Legacy GT 2.5L as well, and honestly I abandoned the idea of boosting the stock motor long ago. The head gaskets are ---- and pop like crazy, the sleeves will crack with too much pressure, and they like to eat valves at times too if over-revved. Swapping in an '02-'03 model WRX ecu is not an easy task either, as there are quite a few extras on the WRX's that just aren't there on the older Legacy's. The harness would have to be custom made to the application, but at least then some sensor features and their subroutines could be disabled through EcuFlash. IMHO the only way to turbo this car and have it safe and reliable would be either with a complete WRX/STi swap with harness/ecu included, or the JDM twin-turbo Legacy 2.0 from same 98 family line with it's complete harness and ecu. Subie's can be a real bitch if you don't have the right platform to start off with.
