Tuning honda's for economy??
 

Let me just start by saying that I have been deployed in Iraq for awhile and have not posted forever, so i though I would come back to life for a bit. I have a question and I don't know if it is a frequently covered topic or not.... I know most of the time we tune our cars for max performance, but have people ever tuned for max fuel economy?? With the raising gas prices I was wondering if anyone had explored this avenue or if it is even worth it?? Just a theory i was juggling for a bit last night in bed and wondering if anyone had input on this.... Thanks

Yes people do tune to get the best fuel economy. Stand alone management systems such as Uberdata, Crome, etc. have a low fuel map for whenever you are just cruising around town or on the highway. This map is normally tunded to achieve the best fuel economy possible. The high fuel map is tuned for best performance.

D15B7 non VTEC, 128 whp and 48-53 mpg, it can be done.

Also with the E10 fuel you can run more timing.

Tune the fuel/timing maps to add tming/lean the fuel abit at 10-11" of vacuum...in the 2800-3400 rpm pange.......

I'm running about 5 degrees more timing than you are. Do you think that's why I get a few less mpg than you, or is it elevation/hills/driver? I know it's really jacked forward, but it felt obviously stronger than stock so I let it go, then noticed the increase in mpg and left it as it sits.

^^that was very helpful. Thank you.. I have tuned with turbo edit before, just never tried to get best gas milage.. 50+ dayum!!

i just got 42+mpg today on my way down to fla. it's great when a sohc-t non-vtec gets 206whp and 42+mpg highway.

I didn't mention I slotted the dizzy to get more base timing. Drafting but DRIVER's foot and feel plays the biggest part.

The test tranny I just installed in a buddys car, we will see.

D15B8 motor with a 3.722 Fd/EX tranny, it felt PERFECT as a DD tranny............
