Timing Retard device

i have a crane hi6 ignition currently. turbo setup will have safc 2 and 450 injectors. would it be in my best interest to invest another 100-150 to get the trc-2 and boost proportional map sensor? something else maybe?

It would probably be more worthwhile to chip the ECU to control the fuel/ignition assuming your ECU is chippable.

Yeah I think if your even concidering spending an extra 1-200 dollars extra, why not chip your ecu and use it to tune the setup? Much more reliable than the hack and you get full tuneability such as timing, fuel etc.

Agreed. If you're serious about your setup, running hacks is not the best way to tackle it. Let your ECU work for you, instead of against you. You'll be better off in the long run, and have greater flexibility as your setup grows stronger.

man, this just keeps getting crazier. the guys that hang out in this forum are hardcore tuning on your own. i already have the afc/450's so it's kind of a little late to turn back. plus i have little experience with turbo/tuning and this little step for you guys is one giant leap for me.

You can still use your AFC.

Just mod your ECU, and tune NA maps, instead of boost. This way, you save money on a ignition retard device, in the future, when you're more comfortable with it, you'll already be setup to tune boost from your ECU.

Build a project that is flexible, and you'll get more from it in in the long run.

when you say mod your ecu and use the afc, would are you talking about running the afc as you normally would and just tuning the ignition maps on the ecu?

Yep.

I know it is popular, but frankly, the hack sucks. I know because I'm using it. Bleeech! I'm going to chip as soon as I can find an ecu cheap enough and then sell my vafc off, probably end up with some cash in my pocket.
