Timing issue
I Have 99si so i have the obd2b-obd1 conversion Ive recently purchased Ectune. So i wanted to do things 100% correct i bought 1 of those digital timing lights to my suprise my car was runing extreamly retarded. With the distributor fully advanced i still had to add 12 deg to my tables to achive the needed 16deg btd. Ive heard of people advancing dizzy and retarding timing do gain a little edge on there bottom end im thinking its the conversion that has things runing funny. Has anyone else run into this problem the car feels great i def have throttle responce gains im just nervous about adding so much timing ontop of a fully advanced dizzy.

lock belive i figured it out

Re: Timing issue
imho if you have the dizzy fully advanced something is wrong...check your mechanical timing

Re: Timing issue
that what is was b/c i had my head and deck milled the true tdc of my motor was a bout 4 deg late acording to my crank pully

Re: Timing issue
Two degrees off @ the cam (is four degrees @ the crank) is a LOT of deflection.
You need to lock your timing at 16 degrees, center your distributor, and adjust cam gears to get your engine into electrical AND mechanical time. |
Re: Timing issue
thanks for the advice after driving around today i realized ---- is still wrong after doing small pulls only in vtec my car pulls enough vacume to enable fuel cut on decel. looks like ill be buying some cam gears. so do i put my motor in time mechanicly then adjust the cam gear for 16-deg btc do you suggest that i make new timing marks on the pully or do i try to make the others work im gunna post pics later so mabey if someone else has the same problem they can see.

Re: Timing issue
Why would you make new timing marks on your pulley when the existing ones are the ones you go by?
|
Re: Timing issue
b/c when i put the motor at tdc the notch on the pully is off about 2-4mm

Re: Timing issue
set your crank pulley to TDC via oil pump mark then align the cam gears correctly. As long as the head has not been milled and you are running a stock gasket the crank pulley will line up at the oil pump at the cam gears will center up perfectly. Once you have that done, adjust the distributor to the center and lock the timing via ectune and set the timing manually to whatever base timing you are running.
