timing?

okay here's my set-up:
t-25 w/ log manifold
450's, V-AFC, BTM
smic, probe bov, 8-10 psi.

i have my afc set-up so that my a/f guage reads two bars in the green when at WOT, so that should be good but i can't figure out my timing. i was using the btm and had it set at 1 but i was taking a road trip the other day and everytime i would step on it i would hear the turbo spool but it seemed like i was being held back. so i floored it and at the same time had my girl slowly turn the knob down, as it went down i could feel it fulling harder. now my btm is set at 0 and it pulls pretty good but it still feels like it is being held back a little and when i let off of the gas it seems like it pulls a little bit more for a fraction of a sec. should i adjust my timing at the distributer? if so should i retard or advance it?

Re:timing?

Are you sure? you havent fucked with it at all? no adj cam gears either?

Do you hear any detonation? like on a heavy load in 3rd gear?

What does detonation sound like?

yep, i haven't messed with the timing at all. no adjustable cam gears of anything. no detonation that i can hear. should i just try to retard it 3 degrees and keep the btm set at 0 and see if it gets any better?

Re:timing?

whats the difference in retarding the timing by the dizzy or by the msd btm? it's the same isnt it? :-\

Re:timing?

retarding base time means that the car's timing will be retarded right from 0 rpm. it will make throttle response worse, low end power will suffer. now, leaving it at stock w/ keep stock throttle resp, and some low end power, then as boost increases it sets timing back per psi. so 1 deg retard every 1 psi of boost, or .75/psi, .5/psi, etc.
