TE tune with O2 on or off?

So I was doing some fine tuning on the afrs in vac with the O2 off and was getting some good numbers 14.6-15.5, so I thought ok now I will turn the O2 on and it will do some smoothing out of its own and It will be tits. WRONG, one I turned the O2 in in the general options, my afrs went to ---- like 12.0-13.3!!! WTF happened? I dont get it. SO ---- it im running with the O2 off. What is the pros and cons of doing this?

thats why i love my aem WB it has a signal wire that you hook to the ecu to make it think you are running a stock o2.. and have never had a o2 code in TE

did your t/e throw an 02 code too?it even throw it with my stock pm7 so it must be my o2 going out.what would be the worst that happen if it stop working?

Re: TE tune with O2 on or off?

the thing is that i get no cel because the O2 is turned off. I select it to off in boost, and the afrs go way rich. Idk whats up with that but im getting 33-35 mpg on the hwy now with the O2 off. ;D

Re: TE tune with O2 on or off?

W/ TE, I like to leave the o2 enabled. Unplug the o2, get the car up to temp, and do a long (8-10sec) decel in gear to trigger the o2 CEL. This way, you know for sure there is no closed loop action going on. Clean up you maps, and plug in o2 if you so desire.

This is assuming your TPS is not misadjusted, and the car is going into decel fuel cut when you try and force the O2 CEL.

Good Luck w/ it.

Having a bad o2 sensor can skew your afr's quite a bit.

I've monitored about 4 different cars with my wb with the o2 on and it reads mid 12's-mid 13's, on average.

Switched out the o2 sensor with my own(brand new) and it went up to 14's.

Re: TE tune with O2 on or off?

yes they do, some also have narowband, and wideband outputs that you can hook into your ecu.

Re: TE tune with O2 on or off?

I have been experiencing the same thing with T/E and my O2 sensor settings. I currently have no O2 sensor hooked up. With the O2 setting in T/E to 'ON' I get a CEL fairly quickly (even tho the car seems to run just fine) even when maintaining constant speed, but with the option "OFF IN BOOST' it takes longer to throw a CEL. It seems to take a length of deceleration to trigger it. I haven't tried it yet with it 'OFF' (although now this seems the logical thing to do)

Now the problem i am having is i am getting terrible gas mileage. I know that i need to tune my fuel maps, but don't really know where to start. I have a Wideband O2 setup from Innovate, and have done some datalogging, but am hesitant to start modifying my fuel maps since i don't fully understand where to start. does anyone here have any tips on a basic procedure to follow for starting to tune?

BTW, the .bin that i am running is one i found on Xenorons site. The description sounded very close to the setup i am running, and i have been driving with this setup (safely?) for about 6 months now. I also have 450CC injectors from a DSM installed.

Also, would hooking my O2 sensor back up result in better mileage? Or is the stock O2 not sensitive enough with a modified engine setup to perform adequately?

Thanks in advance for any help.

i too get o2 codes with TE and my plx m300. I have a chipped pm7 ecu with a d16a1. The code pops up after driving for about 20 mins or so. I have the o2 turned off completly too...but the car runs the same when i get the code (i think it runs the same) so i just ignore it.

obdo o2 codes are very odd and pop up for alot of reasons besides the o2. Not to mention you can unplug the o2 and alot of the time you will never even get the code on a stock ecu

ok i dont want to start a pissing match with a hmt staff member but if u unplug the o2 sensor rightfuly it should throw a o2 code cause the ecu dont have any readings coming from the o2?correct me if im wrong!

Re: TE tune with O2 on or off?

ah! my bad i thought u meant unpluging the 02 clip and having the code go away on the ecu.yea if u clear the ecu it self it should go away. :-[i feel like a dumb ---- now!
