Started car without chip in NEED HELP ASAP
Don't asked how it happened, but it did. The car started for a second then died. I put a chip in correctly and now I get a solid cel and the car wont start. I once did this before with a blank chip and everything was normal after. Did I fry my ECU or is this something fixable. I really need help because this is my daily driver.

Re: Started car without chip in NEED HELP ASAP
shouldnt have hurt anything, try just disconnecting the battery for a minute, put the chip back in and see what happens, i cant see that hurting anything....

Re: Started car without chip in NEED HELP ASAP
agreed, disconnect your battery and try again.

Re: Started car without chip in NEED HELP ASAP
i disconncted the battery for about a minute, and tryed it. Same thing.
I always thought you had to leave it disconnected for a while(15minutes) for it to fully reset. I am letting it sit for a while now, and will try again in a few. I know it was running hella rich, so that describes it not started after the first try. I still get a solid CEL though, as well as my battery light is lit up. |

Re: Started car without chip in NEED HELP ASAP
Found out the problem were in the chips. One of the chips "prongs" got destroyed when I took it out, and the other one was a blank chip(didn't set the offset right). Guess there is no need for a new ECU(thank god). This gave me a nice scare, but I am glad this is over. Thanks guys for your help. Now on to ordering some more chips.......

Re: Started car without chip in NEED HELP ASAP
yea i've destroyed those prongs before trying to get them out of some of the tighter fitting sockets.

Re: Started car without chip in NEED HELP ASAP
Just put it in lightly when you are swapping chips, then really press it in all the way when you are done. Also use a screwdriver to take them out. Put it under and lightly twist to bring the chip out as evenly as possible. Makes things easier.
Or get a ZIF socket if you are worried about it. |
