Should I begin tuning?

Should I begin tuning?
To the tuning gurus:
I have a wideband (plx 300), a chipped ecu, a STS and atmel chip (the atmel may be dead) and a pocket programmer to burn the chips. I also just got a nokia DKU-5 data logging cable in the mail. I plan to use turboEdit to modify the bins, ecu control 5 for datalogging, and this is on a 1989 g1teg with the d16a1.
My original plan was to wait until I could afford an emulator of some sort to begin tuning since I’m a total n00b...but when I was thinking about all the parts I slowly gathered, I realized I may have enough to start right now.
What do you guys think? Since I have a lot to learn, I figured to wait until I got the emulator to make the learning process easier, and to keep my engine in once piece. However, since I have the data logging cable, I was wondering if waiting for the emulator really gonna make a difference in how much easier I can tune the car? I understand I won’t need to burn any chips until I get the final map completed, but I’m getting antsy.
Let me know what you guys think, thanx.

You can tune with that stuff it just takes longer is all. I tune with a moates burn1 and crome. that saves sometime because crome can control the burn1 so all you have to is change your map and send the data to the burner then switch chips..Doing it like that makes it not quite so time consuming but it still takes me an hour or so to tune my afr from scratch something guys with an ostrich can do in 20 minutes.
I tried uber for a few days and the extra step of sending the rom to flash&burn then burning it was a pain.
I thought I heard that turbo edit had it's own daalogging in the newest version?
The process being slower may help you out at first actually.

Re: Should I begin tuning?
I say get started as soon as possible because at first it took me about a week to get used to how my laptop connected how ports like to work and how my software liked to connect. Like in crome if you open the program then connect to burn1 make some changes and for some reason unplugg the usb plug you have to close crome and reopen it or it won't be able to reconnect to the burner.
Just dumb things like that that you have to get used to.
