serial port adapter?

I just bought a serial port adapter. it's partly assembled, the only thing left is to solder the wires onto it and the ecu. where does it get power from? the ecu or the computer? it says that it needs 5 volts, am I going to need to get a voltage regulator? also, what to the tx and rx things hook up to? it's a AD232DBA.

No voltage regulator..

Here is the pinout provided by Nick of ECUControl. (http://www.ECUControl.com)

where is that located on the ecu? I know I've seen a picture before, I just don't remember where. is it on the 88 pm5 ecu? I have one right here I can look at.

On a PM5? ..it's not going to work on that, but if you want to see what the CN connector looks like, it's a set of 5 in line solder spots.

CN2, or CN3.. something like that, it's 2:30a, I'm tired.. can't... think.. :P

Re:serial port adapter?

I looked at my pm5 last night and saw it, it's cn3, I remembered as soon as I saw it. I think I'll solder the wires into my ecu, then leave the connector hanging out of the ecu case, and just connect a serial cable to the dangling connector whenever I'm ready to rock. How to I get the information on my computer? do I need to dl a program?

Re:serial port adapter?

Are you putting this on a PM5?!

..you need a chipped ECU running either a base ECUControl ROM, or non-stock TE compatible ROM.

Then you have to use either ECUControl or TurboEDIT to datalog from that ECU.

Right now, only the Older 1.x PGMFI ROMs are supported in the datalogging as the current TurboEDIT 2.0 compatible ROMs use a very different serial interrupt handler.

However, you can datalog these 1.x ROMs in TurboEDIT2.0..

...confused enough? :D

no, I don't plan on putting it in the pm5, but there is the cn3 port for it. yes, I am thoroughly confused. so TE 1.x can handle the serial input? or something else 1.x? Also, those .pn or whatever files in the faq don't work for me? what do I need to open them and get 88-89 chipping knowledge?

Re:serial port adapter?

Basically, use these combinations to datalog ROMs.

ECUControl to datalog ECUControl base ROMs, Ghettodyne Boost ROM, PGMFI Base ROMs (Available on the TurboEDIT website)

-or-

TurboEDIT 2.0 to datalog ECUControl base ROMs, Ghettodyne Boost ROM, PGMFI BAse ROMs( Available on the TurboEDIT website)

Available Soon:
ECUControl to datalog TurboEDIT2.0 ROMs
TurboEDIT2.0 to datalog and Real-Time Program (thorugh the same interface with PGMFI RTP board) TurboEDIT2.0 ROMs.

[EDIT] ..as for the graphics, I forget which program to open them in. It's a PCB creation program. Send a PM to Semnos, or Semnos, if you could reply to this thread that would be great..[/EDIT]
