safc1 tune on 87 crxsi???

so i have this 87 crx si...go figure...went over the motor a lil. vitaras, .030 shaved off the block and head combined, cometic hg, arp head studs and rod bolts, port-n-polished head, fresh valve job, stiffer dx outer springs, delta 272/260 cam, aem cam gear, 00 integra tb fitted on stock upper plenum, port matched manifolds, hf mani with welded t3 flange, super 60 svo turbo, tial 38mm wg, 2.25" piping to fmic, 2.5" downpipe, walbro pump, bluetop dsm 450s, safc1, msd sci-l btm and blaster 2, and in search of a wideband for a decent price............

so the motor is fresh, has maybe not even 10 minutes of run-time on it so far...been waitin on some things to come in before i could drive it or whatnot but i need to get this safc at a decent tune to start with??? for those of you familiar with the ew motors or d15a3 per say.....gay pre-obd ----. lol

I haven heard, or looked to find out how you would set up a obd0/1 on the older ew motors, but it would be a much better idea than a safc. But good luck, I dont see very many pre 88 crx out there rippin it up.

A B-series in an EW chassis is ------- stupid. You lose ALL ability to work on the vehicle, and the transmissions are weaker than the CG transmissions that bolt right in + run B-series based axles. Those EW chassis have less nose room than 88+ ED chassis, and when the turbo makes the power a B-series for sub-350/400 whp is a hugely expensive crap idea.

The problem with the 85-87 Si is that it has a vacuum advance distributor. You CAN make an AFC work correctly to control the fuel since the ECU does not control ignition on those ECUs (up to the MAP sensor's limit of 9.25 psi, upgrade to 92+ throttlebody mounted MAP if you want to max at 10.65 psi). The distributor retards timing at WOT, but how much and if it retards under boost I do not know. I have little affection for a BTM, although they do work, and ZERO love for an MSD analog box (6A, 7A, if it has an A in there it doesn't work correctly). At best the MSD isn't doing anything, at worst it misfires or completely screws up ignition timing.

So, yeah, you can make what you have work for you. However I'd recommend converting to 88-91 Si/HF dist w/ 90-91 PM6/PS9 ECU at minimum. *If it were my car* I would do all the wiring mods required to run the OBD0 88-91 distributor but stick a 92+ distributor on there and get a $50 eBay OBD0-1 conversion harness and run an OBD1 Civic/Integra ECU.

http://www.muller.net/sonny/crx/swap2/index.html is your friend. Everything found at http://www.muller.net/sonny/crx/ (except the block posting garbage, don't ever do something that ignorant when the stock sleeve holds 450+) is seriously good tech.

If you have any questions, www.redpepperracing.com is a good site, but I know almost as much about those chassis and a *LOT* more about wiring/tuning than anyone you'll find there. Keep hitting this thread + I will assist.

Yah, I converted an 86 automatic carby Civic hatch to OBD0 MPFI ZC w/ automatic transmission back 00-01. Talk about not having anywhere to turn and learning the definition of "man up." :3
