SAFC trouble

OK, yesterday I put in the SAFC II with 450's in preparation to put in my turbo this weekend, and everything worked great....yesterday. This morning when I started my car to go to work, I got a cel, and it sounded like it was misfiring. Maybe one of the cylinders wasn't working, accompanied by white smoke. I don't know if maybe I messed up one of the wires putting the ecu back in or if it had something to do with a cold morning, but if any of you have any ideas I would appreciate it.

Go back and make SURE you wired it correctly, and that there are no loose wires. It sounds like a wire my be loose. Also, just to be sure what are your settings at? Could be something as simple as it not being on the 4.cyl selection.

Actually, I think I may have figured it out, but I haven't had a chance to go home yet and take a look at it. It worked great yesterday, but the last thing I did yesterday is remount the ECU. I think I may have disconnected the af wire when I did it (it was the only one I didn't solder.) That would cause the injectors remain wide open and run super rich (that would explain all the white smoke). I'm gonna go home and find out!!

That sounds like it to me too. In all honesty the first AFC I ever wired up I reversed the airflow wire in and airflow wire out and it did the same thing. Not to mention I fried the airflow meter part of the AFC. Ah well, it's all in learning. ::)

Ok, that was it. One wire disconnected and it screws up everything. I busted out my soldering iron and fixed it. Then it took like 10 minutes to burn and spit out all the fuel I had dumped in there!!!

Re:SAFC trouble

just inquiring...how did the car run with the safc and the injectors setup without the turbo being installed? wouldnt this make for the car running extremely rich or would the safc be able to underpower the fuel injectors to provide a stoich mix? sorry, this is kind of a newbie-esque question, but i just wanted to know. sorry to bug you, thanks.

;D

Re:SAFC trouble

If your going to install the AFC and 450's before your turbo, you need to set all the settings to 0% correction. If you don't, yes it would run real rich and would probably be undriveable.

Re:SAFC trouble

if you set the afc at 0% correction then the car would run silly rich! if running the car n/a with the 450's and safc then put the settings to -46 all across the board.

agreed.

i have -46% across the board (no turbo yet), and it runs great. this is with a vafc, but basically the same shiz.

Ah yes your correct. Jesus I need to think things over a little more thoughroly before I post! ::) Sorry about that, I was thinking of when your running the AFC with the stock 240 cc injectors.
