SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

im boostin 6psi soon on my f22, and i got the apexi safc and 440cc's...but im worried about the timing, i was wanting to use the universal msd btm, but ive heard that it has problems wit the afc hack..so what do you recommend? people have told me since im runnin only 6psi to retard at the distributor...

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...threadid=21747 ive read thru that whole thing...and ive come to the conclusion that btm only retards in boost, but when you're not in boost, the btm does not retard thus your timing is advanced, and thats where some problems lay..

maybe i should just retard at the distributor... :-\ but then u lose low end power, and u cant retard as much when u're in higher boost. retarding at the dizzy does however retard even when the turbo is not boosting, so thats good

iono im confused...help?!

Thanks in Advance for any replies!!

Adam

anyone got anything?

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

Nope...
The thing is..the AFC hack moves the ignition table in a way that right after the vacume to boost transition your timing will be like when you're car is at the lowest vacume and if you look at the table you'll see that your timing is then 30-40+ degree.
There is not that can help you with that...there are a lot of people running the hack for a long time.....but if you are really peranoid don't use it.

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

so what do you think about retarding at the dizzy

redcrxsi 05-27-2004 12:19 AM

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

so people just run on the hack without really retarding there ignition is what your saying right Semnos

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

so...some people run the afc hack without even touching the timing and it runs fine?

if not using the btm, wouldnt you try to retard in the distrib?

whats better retarding in the distrib or not touching it at all

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

well common sense would tell you that retard at dizzy > no retard at all. If I were you, I would look into chipping my ecu rather than rely on that safc.

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

yeah i think with the F22 that youre gonna need some retard, probably at least .5 degree/lb, some people run no retard to about 10 psi on D series but F series is not D series... how much boost do you wanna run?

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

i said 6psi..ill prob let the tuner take care of it wit the timing..all i kno is im probably not gonna use the btm..

if i just didnt have this AT, cuz if i had a manual id use a civic ecu and chip that...but ive never heard of anyone chipping the AT ecu's on my engine yet..

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

low boost + afc hack = mega advanced timing.

at that low of boost, use an FMU or something so you wont have a problem with timing.

If you're going to run the AFC hack, run 9psi + or nothing at all.

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

i don't know about the f22, but on my d16 i kept stock timing and ran safc w/ the btm for stock ingnitions. 21k miles boosted and 15k of those miles were at 10-12psi.

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

whats the problem with running such low boost wit the afc hack...

ive pretty much decided to talk to the tuner to see what he wants to do...if just to retard in distrib or do nothing at all or use the btm...but im def gonna only run 6psi..

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

chip your ecu if your realy worryed about it

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

well, i said up above that i have an auto...and i dont think ive read or seen anyone chip the auto tranny yet...now if i had a manual trans id get a civic ecu and chip that...

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

so if ur running boost thats around 9 psi with the hack, it will be better then runing low boost with tha hack?

tegunderpressure 05-30-2004 09:09 PM

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

Yeah, someone explain that. Why would it be worse to run low psi on the hack, than high?

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

yes id still like to know..please do explain

DAmn, i totally forget, i hit reply, becasue i remember reading why, and it made total sense, look in that why the hack sucks thread, i think it was in there, but i just totally forgot.

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

afc will work just fine at 6psi at stock timing using those 440'cc injectors.DONT WORRY. just because the engine is an f22 doesnt make that much of a difference, it acutally has lower compression so it can handle more timing advance. as long as your not detonating, theres nothing wrong with your timing to be advanced some, it will actually make more power. if you do detonate, just ADD more fuel with the afc.

now if you really want to be safe, add the btm to your setup and retard about .25 degree's at the btm and your set. id also recommend u get a bigger fuel pump.

oh and finally, if you only plan to boost 6psi, dont bother boosting your car. its a good starting point but youll get addicted very quick and want to turn up the boost. i hope that helps vato loco eastside gangsta crip ;).

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

cool, thanks for the advice...i doubt ill get addicted cuz i dont want to detonate my car...LOL...the stock fuel pumps are good up to 220hp tested by some company...so im good...still contemplating the btm..ill have to talk to the tuner...but thanks again

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

the higher boost you run on the AFC hack, the larger area of the stock ignition and fuel tables you use. if you look at the igntion table, the further right you go in the higher rpms, the less ignition advance you have. so, by running higher boost, your are essentially running *safer* boost.

engines dont usually blow because of boost (unless its very high boost), they blow because of detonation.

AznBadAss92LX 06-11-2004 01:58 PM

Re:SAFC Hack + MSD BTM

yeh i kinda figured most people would blow because of timing more so than boost...

so ive decided to go back and use the btm/afc
