run ecu straight from a laptop?
So in order to use turboEDIT you have to burn a new chip everytime you want to change your maps? Why can't you just hook your laptop straight to the ecu and let the ecu get info from the computer instead of the chip?? Is this stupid or what? I just think it would be alot easier.

Re:run ecu straight from a laptop?
Yes, that would be "easier", and that's what we're moving towards.
But what steps between A and Z that you're missing are that the ECU natively isnt' setup to do this. The physical hardware, nor the programming code in the ECU.
But thanks to PGMFI members, TurboEDIT will soon be able to do just what you're looking at. Small hardware changes will need to be made, as well as purchasing an RTP (Real-Time Progrmaming) Board from PGMFI.
Anyway, long story short, you don't just "read" the information and start changing, the ECU was never intended for this.
