Romulator questions, and turbo edit compatibility

I have been reading through a few posts about the pgmfi RTP, and the xtronics romulator...
If i was to purchase the romulator, will Turbo Edit in the future be able to change configurations on the fly, vs the expensive hondata software?
Im also kinda worrried about the battery backup of the system, i have heard from people that it will only hold the "edited" rom for 12hrs or so...
Is there a way of hooking up a 5v backup for this...so I dont need to carry a laptop everywhere to loadup a bin just incase the rom disappears..

currently I have a 90 pm6 ecu, chipped w/max 233 datalog,
how am i able to tune on the fly and datalog at the same time, if the romulator uses serial port also?

It will do that as of the end of this weekend. Right now, it loads the ROM into the ROMulator, and runs the car perfectly on it (tested by Dave, "leed"). Right now I'm just working ont he table changes, and ROM option changes. This is cake once the initial packet creation routines and communication setup was done. Soo, all downhill from here.

You don't use the ROMulator to "run" your car, you use it to tune. Once you have the tune done, you just burn that tune to an EEPROM, and put it in the car.

I would call Transtronics, and ask to speak to George. He should know.

It would require two serial ports. Or, on your ECU using the TTL -> USB convertor, or, since you already have the MAX, use a generic serial to USB Converter.

The other option is to wait for a PGMFI RTP board which will program through that same MAX233 interface. No EEPROMs, no ROM Burners. Just the RTP board, and the MAX233! More to information to come on that as developmental data turns to stable data..

the xtronics board has its own "rom" you plug into your ecu socket..am I able to make on the fly changes while the car is running???

I have also seen the posts about the rtp on pgmfi boards, and I like it....so it will connect right to the max233 board, and then I can datalog and change fuel/timing/misc
right on the fly while the car is running

thankyou for your help, im a beginner in this stuff but im atiment to learn.

No. It's just a plug to line up the pins correctly. Looks like this. (This is the setup I use to test in my house.)

Sort of, but no. It's going to replace your EEPROM all together... more information will be released as it because "fact" rather than "Developmental".

Down the road with this ROMULATOR I think itll be nice to be able to hook a wideband up to the laptop at the same time and do a Delta Lambda tuning like on the expensive AEM systems where you can set a A/F ratio and the computer will change the cell values to hit the target. Just an idea for 6 months down the line ;)

This has already been in the works for some time. The datalogger is already setup this way.
