Default roms and importing

im sorry to ask this, its just something i dont quite understand yet. in TE there is a ROM and a map. first you open the ROM and then import the map right. so whats the difference between the two. what basically is a rom and what is a map?

A rom, or binary file, is the program, if you will, that the computer runs to essentially run your engine. The map files is just the fuel and ignition maps. Having map files eleminates the need for 50 different roms. There can be one rom for each respective ecu (pm6, pm7, pr4 etc...) and many maps that can be imported in to your specific ecu type.
