Recomended Engine Managment For
 

I'm looking to update my SBC from normally aspirated to EFI and then turbo/s. The car is strictly drag raced and unless I fall into pile cash it most likely will not ever see the street again. What I'm looking for is suggestions, tips, and/or leads on the path to take. I've researched the web and found many kits to complete the EFI part but with it leading into turbo/s eventually I want to make sure I'm starting on the right path. MFG's like Holley,FAST, or Accel have the kits, but is there more then that available for what I'm looking to do. I just want to make sure I'm ready when it's time to add boost. As for now I want to learn the mapping and stick with running the low 10's consistently.

It will probably come down to calling the local speed shop and going off what one guy thinks is a good kit. I never had good luck with posting in forums were my bro built his 300+ HP CRX just off of forum post's and web searching. If there is anyone that has some past experience in upgraading from carb to EFI all I'm looking for is, been there this one works well but don't use this one it will not work for what you want to do. you know that kinda stuff. I'm doing a similiar project with a SBF. I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. You need to switch to the EFI system obviously. I'd imagine you need a EFI head + intake and distributor. Splice together a custom harness, and you're going to have to find a pinout diagram so you know where each wire corresponds. Then check out Megasquirt for engine management. mega-manual.com I believe is the url. The turbo kit is easy, as its a universal process. You may try a different forum that has more experience with EFI converted SBC's.

yeah the turbo setup im not worried about for now that fab I can handle. I looked into mega squirt and not quite what I'm looking for. I've found many of stand alone kits but just need to here back from those who have tried with success or not. Holley,DFI,FAST, or others that are available.

Probably will have to look elsewhere, I'd venture to say most people on this board have more of a familiarity with Megasquirt as its an affordable and effective engine management solution.

I have heard good things about Accel's gen7 DFI. They have supposedly pulled some of then non essential options and gotten the price pretty reasonble ~$1000. A guy local to me runs it on his street legal 8sec tt sbf.

There are some big 3rd gen GM sites that deal with ECU mods and programming of the ECU. I am sure ppl here want to help you but HMT is a little short on domestic knowledge.

Great this is the kinda stuff I need to hear. I was made aware this forum ain't the greatest place to be asking for this type of advise but down the road I'll need to stop back for some turbo questions and it would be nice to talk to someone that has been aware of my project from the start or atleast knows i've been here before. DFI was one of the first I was checking out. and being I'm budget minded I just need to here they make a good system that will work well with the turbos down the road. Although I do like the options that MSD has available so we'll see. Thanks

You should just go get a tbi setup off of a sbc in a wrecking yard. I know you were thinking about doing a differant setup than ms, but my step dad is running ms on his 91 tbi 350ci suburan and hes pulling a ---- ton more power and way better mpg. You can buy Mega Squirt already built and in a box plug it all together and have a good time.
