Questions about TE and Swaps

I am doing a B16 swap into my 89 CRX dx. I was originally gonna go with the Gen 1 swap since it is a little easier than the Gen 2 swap, but the Gen 1 is ODD0 therefore i would have to run TurboEdit. I have the option of getting a PR3 or PW0 ECU; which, as i have been reading, aren't supported by turbo edit. I'm gonna go turbo and plan to switch to a 3BAR map sensor later to run higher boost. What are the differences between TE and Uber? Is it hard to learn to use TE? How exactly does it work? Do you have to take the chip out and reburn it everytime you tune?

On a different note, would it be worth the extra money to go with the Gen 2 for the OBD1 and run Uberdata? What is involved in switching my Gen 1 swap from OBD0 to OBD1?

you can use whatever motor you want, "gen1" and "gen2" doesn't matter. it's the electronics that you use that will matter. stick with what you have. you can reuse your current car harness, just adapt it (dpfi-mpfi swap).

if you're going to go with a forced induction option, then you will need a pm6, ps9, or pr4 ECU, and that leaves you with using turboedit. yes, you would reburn the chip, but who cares? make a safe basemap and datalog.

there are options out there with the obd0 code development that turboedit interfaces with that will allow you to use 2.5 and 3 bar maps.

first of all decide how much effort and time you want to put into this project. then read pgmfi.org four times over.

What engines/cars are the pm6, ps9, and pr4 ECU's out of?

thanks, but 1 more question... All of these ECU's are for non-vtec; I will have a b16 w/ vtec. Does turboedit compensate for this somehow or how does that work?

your best bet is to convert your dx harness to mpi, use a gen 1 b16 swap and then use a pm6 with turbo edit and an rpm activated switch for vtec, or a ps9 ecu and run 1 wire vtec with turbo edit.......down load turbo edit and a bin file and start playing with it, it is pretty easy to use, and if you have access to a dyno or a wide band you'll be able to tune the hell out of it....plenty of people around here to get you going with a base map

If i get a B16 swap then all i have to do is get the resistor box and do the wiring for MPFI right? what companies sell the RPM switched to activate vtec?

Im pretty sure you can find them at Jegs, Summit Racing and some of the larger domestic (focused) online retailers.
