Not having a remote screen sucks. Paying out the ass for a remote screen sucks. I sure hope this works. I hope to have it running by this weekend

Me too. I've got the LM-1 and all the little goodies, but it gets pretty tough when your not loging to watch that "small book" sized guage. Very interesting project and hope it works out for you.

Will do. I've heard this is a bad idea because running two screens will burn ---- out. soooo, i came up with an idea to make the grounds switchable. Gonna put the screen in a nifty spot (where the clocks go in EF's). Total cost so far is <$20 Total cost will probably be under $25

Damn, I wish I was that good with electronics. I don't have the balls to start something like that unless I know it's been done and proven before. Nice job man.

Actually, I have little-to-no idea what im doing. If it wouldnt have been for someone's advice i probably would have blown it up already. Some electronics guru is supposed to be getting back with me about which wire(s) i need to put on the toggle. For whatever reason I enjoy soldering so I thought this would be a relaxing project.

dam, thats a pretty nifty idea. i like the ground idea also...maybe put a small toggle switch on it...IDK, just thinking. i will stop now. :P

meh.....didnt go as easy as planned, but I got it working. I tried switching the ground..nope. tried switching the 5v, nope, tried switching all kinds of ---- but it didnt like it -SO- I soldered up a DB-25 (aka printer cable thingy) connector to the stock LCD screen.

So, now i've got a remote screen AND the stock screen both with identical male connectors. So I just wired up the LM-1 itself to a matching female connector. So, when I need to take it out of the car, I just loop the ribbon cable to the side of the LM-1 and plug it in. When its in the car, I unhook the stock one, and plug in my remotely located one. Anybody let me know if any of that didnt make sense or you need help finding parts.

Don't be intimidated by all of the wires. A bit of common sense and some practice with a cheap soldering iron and this can be done in a couple of hours.


*the usual green backlight isnt on b/c im running it off of a 9v battery.
