Progress of another newbie, I hope.
Well, after a lot of lurking and reading, I've gotten started with my tuning adventure.
Car is a '93 Civic EX D16Z6, stock everything inside. T3 .63/.60 on steel log manifold Turbonetics Deltagate@8psi DSM BOV, uncrushed Innovate LC-1 DSM 450cc injectors, resistor box installed. Ostrich and HULog, both working perfectly Crome Pro Here's my basemap, and my datalog. Way lean as soon as I get on the throttle at all. I'd really appreciate some help in modifying the ROM, I understand how to change individual cells, but I'm not sure how much to adjust the values. I've got several ROMs from Xenocron's rom dump, but I couldn't find a setup that was similar to mine. I thought that I followed the directions correctly, and I should be running rich, but low and behold, I'm lean. I'm tuning alone, so I'm just doing short runs, keeping an eye on the AFRs, and if I see it go too lean (16 or above, I'm off the throttle)... My experience tonight tells me that I need a second person. I missed a lot of lean conditions, hopefully everything is fine with the motor. So, my newbie questions: 1. What process should I use to street tune this ROM? I'm in the middle of nowhere, and there aren't any tuners around who will travel to me, nor anyone I know that really knows this stuff who could ride passenger. I understand that I should go out and try to tune a cell at a time, but how is that possible without turning on AutoTune? I've heard pros and cons, any suggestions or comments would be extremely helpful. 2. Assuming I get someone else to drive, what should I be looking for? I know to be in 3rd gear or so, definitely not in 1st, and 2nd seems jumpy to me. Correct me thought process if I'm wrong; Step 1: Start car, pull onto road. Have ROM loaded, and auto-update turned on. Step 2: Have driver stay at a constant speed, constant throttle on level ground. Increase or decrease fuel in that cell so the AFR is around 14. Repeat for the next RPM cell (have driver give it a small amount more gas), and so on. I'm not really sure how to control which cell I move into, because RPM and vacuum are related (more throttle, less vacuum, etc). As far as timing, I'm going to be running pretty conservative, the car is set at 16*, and the map is pretty conservative in my eyes. I'll get a set of detcans and deal with timing when the time comes. I'm very appreciative of the help I've received thusfar, mainly from reading other people's experiences, and now I'm hoping to learn, and eventually help others. start with a boosted map similar to your set-up, if it does the same thing i would recal the WB.

The WB is fine, i checked it in Logworks, and calibrated it at the beginning of the run (before I had started the car, of course). I've looked at others maps, and most of them aren't for the new version of Crome, and give me errors when I load them. I can just copy the cells over, but I don't want to duplicate someone else's maps, I'd like to develop my own. Every setup is pretty different, and mine is using a turbo size that just about no one else has. Plenty of 48/60s, not one 63/60 out there. I'll grab some other maps tonight, and compare them to mine, but I'd really like to do the legwork myself. I'm not afraid of lots of time and work, I just need to know that I'm taking the right path. :edit: After talking to Jeff, I pasted his values from one of his maps from column 3 onward into my map. I tried running his map directly, but the idle was awful, surging from 500 to 1000, and eventually stalling. Actually got into boost for a second, its still lean across the board, but nothing as bad as before. I think I'm going to keep at this with auto-tune on and get the non-boost portions working well. I'd still like to richen it up pretty much everywhere, but we'll see how that goes. |

he is a simple math problem that come in handy when tuning
[(where you are at/where you want to be) - 1] * 100 Example. your wideband reads 11.9 and you want to be at 14.7 11.9/14.7 = 0.809523809523 0.809523809523 - 1 = -0.190476190477 -0.190476190477 * 100 = -19.0476190477 So you highlight the area that you are at 11.9 and then pull 19% of your fuel from that area. maybe you should try amd add 13-14% fuel to comlum 5 on and see if that cuts down the tuning time. |

Things are progressing nicely, I was out for several hours tuning last night, and its looking better.

I'm also having trouble in 4th and 5th gear, anything under 2500rpm, and the car shakes pretty badly if I give it any gas. I'm thinking its the poly mounts transmitting the vibration more than stock mounts would, but I'd like to hear some opinions about it. My AFR's are ~13 when this happens, so its not fuel-related. I can't hear any detonation, but I'll be making a detcan tomorrow, and I'll make sure that its not knocking. Weird. |

Acutally all you have to do is Wideband AFR / Target AFR = Multiplier 11.9 / 14.7 = 0.8095 just multiply those cells by 0.81 which is pulling 19%. |

If most of the map was lean, wouldn't it be easier to adjust the fuel multiplier before messing with individual cells.
