Problems with FMU?

Ok i already know from being on the forum a little while that fmu's are not a good engine management solution, but i dont know why they are bad. Could someone explain to me the problems with the fmu?

Re: Problems with FMU?

ive run a fmu 5 year ago and never had a problem stock gsr and over 500 pass at the track and 60000 km lasted two year it made on the dyno 322 whp tq dont remember
this was on a stock ecu and injector and we put a msd dis 6plus to retard timing

for the proper set up for the fmu changed the stock pump most of them has high milaged

list needed
1--mising link or check valve for the map sensor fot it not to see boost

2---255 liter per hour walbro in the tank

3--msd inline high pressurfule pump [ booster pump]

4--we where running a 7 to 1 fmu made by us but it all depend on the size of turbo
u need all high pressur fuel hoses and dubble clamp fuel pressure will go to 125psi

5--a igntion system that has nos retard timinn on it and we use a pressure swicth to activate it

i have a friend car now running for over 3 year now and it make 310 whp and 240 wtq
on a stock gsr

on a fmu set up make sure not to run the gas tank low on fuel wile under boost it will detroy the motor

the best set up is to programeble ecu but if you dont have any person around to do it the fmu is a second set up

for the fuel milaged it the same under vacume and the fmu only works under boost

and the fmu will not work whit bigger injectors with out lower static fuel pressur but will have pore fuel economie adn driveabelity

I just always ask why run an FMU as a bandaide when a chipped ECU is WAY better and just as cheap.

FMU works but it really costs more to use one by the time you add up pump, missing link,MSD setup. For soem vehicles the FMU is one of the only options for low budget but if you own a Honda it just doesnt make sense.

Ya the fmu 5+ years ago was a good choice due to the lack of management out there but now its just not worth doin it unless its just a low psi set up and dont want to spend money on tune etc. 5 years ago really hondata was just comin out zdyne was 1100 for the obdo crowd so the fmu was a cheaper rote to turbo a car but those days should be over by now

Oh Im agreeing with. I mean dave from dhracing ran 10.40 on a fmu and a chipped xs engerning ecu that just set timing at 15 degrees. For the time 1999 really the only choice was a accel dfi and at 2000 for the complete kit it was just a little much for most.

Now yes there are so many options and from my experince the free editors out there crome is by far the most user friendly. For obdo I like zdyne and they ahve lowered there prices finally

Kinda of topic but have you used Zydyne?Im looking at management options for my new build and I have only limited tuning skills and no one within 500miles to help so user fireindly is helpful.I know there is no data logging but that can be done through the LM1 so not concened about that. The only thing I see is they are hard to find used and still $500 roughly new.

I have it in my car now I have Jeff aka abaz from heres old one. I tried sellin it to switch to obd1 but no one wanted it so I kept it. Its very easy and elimnates the need for burnin chips. Great ecu but ya the price is up there but if you think about the cost of buyin a burner, ostrich, chipped ecu your almost at the same cost
