prices on chipped ecu's and other questions

what should i expect to pay for a chipped p28? i was gona get one from the junkyard but that seems to be the one they don't have at any yards by me.. wonder why...

anyways, i have people trying to sell me un-chipped ones for upwards of 160-180 which seems crazy cause i've gotten ecus at the junkyard for $30 before but i guess p28's get snatched up huh

i've found chipped ones for around 125-150 - good price? or u guys no where to get em cheaper?

also i dont know alot about tunning yet but how do you interface with the ecu for tunning? data logging cable? then u need a burner to actually change the file on the chip? like i said i dont know much

for a p28.....i've seen the price range from $100-$120 (because of the demand) so like you said, id keep searchin the junkyards. I've also heard you can use a po6 (and just do a v-tec conversion). and for the tuning you can download crome (it's free) and burn a basemap, and then you can get a cable (nokia phone cord) for data logging. you can find out alot of info about this from xenocron (hmt member) check out his site www.-------------

unless you have soldered before I recommend getting one already chipped.

P28s are increasingly rare...I cant find them from Junkyard for less than $75-100, and I buy up to (20) at a time :6

Re: prices on chipped ecu's and other questions

I can get them from the junkyard at $50-75.

Stealthmode P28s are $140 shipped, Xenocron has his at $165. They are essentially the same price though. The Xenocron ones come with a basemap. That is what you are paying the $25 for.

That is what you will pay though, not much of a way around it, unless you find one second hand. Just like anything else.

Not anymore...I have to make at least 10-15 phone calls before I find someone dumb enough to let them go for that much. And when they do...they only have 1 or 2 available so shipping chews it up. I'm looking into JDM ECUs in the 100-200 qty for cheaper...but there is a bunch of bullshit and risk when it comes to that too.

I only price them at $165 because I cant find them for cheaper and people still keep buying me out on a weekly basis :-\

BTW...this is Chris. I'm locked out of my xenocron name at the moment :-X

Same story for everyone. Luckily the places around me have all the ECUs priced the same regardless of model.

Chris, I might have a source of JDM ECUs lined up, probably get them for $20/per or less in quantity. I'd want 5-8 of them for personal bullshit, pass the rest along at whatever the cost is.

I'm telling you right now I'd buy (150) at that price and you could have (8) for free for hooking me up with the source!

You have my number ;)

ya i think the junkyards around me are on to this ----, any turbo part, or p28, or anything that can be used to make performance are snatched up and/or over priced. funny how i seen the floor behind the counter at one yard by me it was cluttered with dirty intakes, strut bars, superchargers n ----.

theres places out there that can copy a curcuit board and make to order, i forgot the site - and install the same ass components probly, wonder if that would be somthin worth checking into for you? make your own ecus?

i doubt it. There are enough p05/p06 ecu's to last a lifetime how many cx/dx/lx 92-95 civics were there and at 50-60 bucks a pop.

I have serious contemplated making that investment. But there would have to be SERIOUS copyrite infringement issues on something like that...I wouldnt want to layout $10k and then get sued and not be able to use anything :-X

It would be awesome to offer a NEW ECU like that though :-\

Re: prices on chipped ecu's and other questions

Mitsubishi makes ECUs for themselves, and a good chunk of the aftermarket standalone guys.

The AEM EMS engineers are mostly software engineers.

just remove a few components. like the dual vtec controlls, and the AT all together. I still think ya would get raped. Yeah 10k is a lot to sink into a mountain of plastic you can't sell.
