Default pm9 ecu as a chippable ecu?

can you use the pm9 ecu as a chippable ecu? it is a 1991 ecu so it should use the 28 pim eeprom. one of my buds says you couldn't do it though because its for the hf and dx so it uses the dpfi. so can i use it or not?
