I just tried to burn my first chip, and the chips I bought are AT29C256 and I couldn't find that chip in the menu...so I just picked the 29C256. When it tried to burn, it would burn, then verify, then it would say "reburning section 267" or something like that, then verify, then give the message again, then verify and so on. I waited for about a minute then aborted.

Are the AT29C256 chips not supported by the batronix eprom burner? I see the 29C256 in there but not with the AT in the front.

Ok, I just tried again and after a lil while longer it gave me this message:

"Sector number 0 can't be programmed successfully! Please check your hardware and the flash eprom!"

Anyone have any clue wtf is wrong? Is it because AT29C256 isn't on the programming list? Bad soldering connection?

The reason I asked is because there's a choice for a 28C256 and a AT28C256. So I was thinking maybe they don't support the AT29C256...but I've searched around and it looks like people have used them with success. Anyone have any info on the error?

I Recieved that same error before
make sure your parrallel port cable is not 10000 feet long
around 3 to 6 feet is good or try connecting the burner directly to the pc port, also make sure your jumpers are set correctly and that the chips little "U" type nudge is faceing the parrallel port on the programmer, also make your in your bios you have it set to ECP only. is your pc rather slow? if so then close down any programs.. do a fresh reboot do not open anything but the batronix software.. here is a qoute from when i had the problem but mine works flawless now..

The programming of 29C... chips is sector based. This means that
the programmer must program one sector (for example 128 or 256
bytes) in one rush. If the sector isn't programmed in a specified
time, the programming of this sector fails. The programmer must
program the whole sector again.

Professional programmers like the Batronix USB Chip Programmer
and the Galep-4 have a memory on board which stores the data for
lots of chip sectors. After they have the complete data for one
sector in their memory they start the programming routine for
this sector. Therefor they can realize all timings and program
all memory chips without problems.

The simple Eprom Programmer don't have this memory. It must
program the sector 'just in time'. If a windows interrupt occurs
while programming a sector, the sector fails probable. That is
the reason for the multiple programming passes at programming
sector based chips with the Eprom Programmer.

To reduce this problems we want to recommend that you close
all other programs if you want to program sector based chips
with the Eprom Programmer.

Ok, tried plugging it directly to the laptop, same thing. Everything else is set up right, jumpers, that option in the BIOS, the chip orientation. So I did the hardware test and I would never get the correct reading on the #16 spot on the socket. The other two were correct each time. I used a voltmeter set on DCV 20. Is that the right setting for the test? Anyways, I'm assuming maybe one of the connections is bad or something is not installed correctly on the burner. Here is a pic, PLEASE someone compare with yours and tell me if something is wrong. The transitors can go in anyway right? Thanks for the help! I'm dying to get this working! Anyways, here's a pic:

Heh, funny story... I also just tried burning my first chip and I think I cooked it... I installed it back in my ecu and tried it in my car... Car ran like shyt. Unfortunately it's a 27c256 so i can't erase it. I'll just have to use my spare ecu and wait for more chips.

LOL, well I'm glad I'm not alone. Wanna hold my hand? LOL Did your burn go succesful though? I'm curious if your burner is set up different...but if it's burning chips then stay away, HAHA. Shiet, good luck to the both of us

God damn I'm retarded...I was reading the pins on the burner wrong. I did the test again and found that one of the ic's is defunct or I burnt it out. Gonna go pick one up tomorrow at a elec. store hopefully and we'll see!

Well the desoldering got ugly, contact points started coming off, and after I installed everything it failed the very first test. So I broke down and bought the expensive usb programmer At least now I can make changes at the track and dyno's...and it doesn't cost much more than a vafc...so oh well.
