People who are Boosted w/o Tunning Sign in.. blue wire mod ???s

How many of you guys run an untuned (no WB02 or Dyno) boosted car? My buddy and I are going to boost his civic over spring break cause we both have time to actually work on it, and do it right the first time. I dont quite have all the money for the WB02 yet, which I know is VERY important. But, he wondered about just putting everything on and trying the blue wire mod and using other peoples settings for the AFC and retarding the timming. I know that this isnt the greatest idea ever, but due to the lack of time to put his stuff on, we are going through with our plans to boost it over spring break.

From everything that I have read, the blue wire mod seems to work. I have yet to read a post where somebody has blown something up using it. I was wondering if anybody here has done the mod and can share expriences or any tips, that would be great.

BTW he already bought the AFC and got hit pretty hard on the price, so hes going to stick with it for a while, untill I get boosted n show em how much better TE/UD is... ;)

in short... Im looking for people who are running untuned with AFC or some other type of piggyback to see how your car is running without wideband/dyno tunning and others who have done the blue wire mod and used other peoples boosted AFC settings.

Heres the setup

94 4 door
14b stock WG setting
HF Mani n adapter plate
2.5in DP
JRC 5in
DSM 450s w/ resistors
SAFC
Boost/EGT/Oil press./Water temp.

thanks!

Blaze

Doing it right the first time includes tuning. Without tuning it doesn't matter if its done right cause you may lose a rod.
WTF is a blue wire mod?

i think he's talkin about the o2 senosr mod. AFC instructions dont tell you how to do it, its just basicly a mod to get an air fuel reading, but it uses the stock o2 witch is not as good as a WB.

is that what you meen?

man i would just go with a different type management... like turboedit or uberdata, its cheaper than a AFC and is way better to tune with.

i had my last setup running the ahck for almost a year and never had it tuned with a WB or dyno. i would just adjust the settings by feel. and what the hell is the "Blue wire Mod"?

tell him to sell it and get some real managment. I'm sure he could have gotten all setup with uberdata for the same price as the afc.

Also i got the black wire mod yO! That shiZnit gives me 100 extra whp. No seriously what is the "blue wire mod"? I've never heard of it.

Just get it tuned no matter what management you choose.

I have never heard anything about the blue wire mod either.

Basically, you run the blue wire (on the AFC) to the 02 and it sends back a voltage reading, then dpending on voltgae you richen up the mixture or lean it out. On zeitronix web site they have what voltages mean what AFR. He would run TE or UD but- BTW he already bought the AFC and got hit pretty hard on the price, so hes going to stick with it for a while, untill I get boosted n show em how much better TE/UD is... already posted... Anyways, jeffsciv23 thanks for the help. Anybody else?

that blue wire mod isn't going to tell you ----. Its basically the same as having one of those crappy narrowband af gauges. You NEED a wideband to tell you where your afr is.

so the blue wire mod is as useless as an autometer AF gauge basically...neat.

VAFCs are going for $150 or less used right now... Is that what "getting hit hard" means?

I thought I had heard of the blue wire mod before, but I thought it was a DSM thing, not a Honda thing.

Seriously, quit being such a cheapskate and tune your car right. You guys are spending all this dough to put it together and your skimping on the part that's gonna make or break you? That's smart! ::)

The blue wire mod uses the blue wire coming from the afc that usually hooks up to a second maf sensor like on a nissian and then you read the voltage on the sensor check sceen. It has actually been found that the afc still sends a small amount of signal through this wire so this could make you have false reading which would make it worse than using a narrowband gauge. I would rather tune with one of them than use the blue wire mod but neither is great which is why I bought the plx m300

He was just getting into cars and I was telling him about different types of fuel management that people use for turbocharged cars. He saw one on Ebay and ended up paying $225 for it because he didnt know the going price. Id love to hold his hand and do everything to his car for him, ::) but people have to learn somehow. You didnt magically learn everything you know about cars overnight did you?

"Seriously, quit being such a cheapskate and tune your car right."
Maybe if you would read the post you'd see that its not MY car and that Im in the process of chipping my ECU and that he had already purchased the SAFC and was going to stick with it for a while.

I did by a wideband tho cause the blue wire mod was useless, it was very erratic. I was just posting to see if people had ran it and to see what other people had thought of it. I didnt post to have everyone tell me to have his ECU chipped.

thanks for those who helped....

:P

My car is still untuned right now, basically due to the fact that there's no one around jacksonville, FL apparently that can help me out!!! :p j/k. I havn't had any issues with the way my car runs, but only had my turbo done for about a month now. Boosts 10psi great tho! I really want the tune, i heard too many horror stories about blowin motors, i dont wanna be the next one! So if anyone reads this and is near JAX, hook me up! ;D

yea , a buddy at my shop told me about it, as far as he said, u get a gm o2 sensor, have it welded about a foot away from ur header, hook it up to a volt meter, and if its a 0.6 u are good to go, any higher, ur rich and any lower u are lean,
