Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

That's right. PARTIAL fix.

What do I mean exactly?
-The car no longer has a loping/hunting idle.
-The car no longer bucks/misses coming from boost to high-vac.
-The car's NA performance is as smooth as stock (as far as I can tell)
-HOWEVER the idle (on my CRX) was still high - ~1000-1100 RPMs.

This is a work in progress, and I'll be working more on it as time permits. I'm running the latest code in my turbo CRX and I'm no longer punching the dashboard at every stop light. If you want more details about what changed, look on PGMFI at the code / technical details.

Thanks for your patience everyone.

Bin/Code available at: http://www.pgmfi.org/phorum/read.php?f=12&i=3178&t=3178 for the time being. It loads up in TE2 without any fuss or fiddling.

what setup are those maps for?? the map look really lean in the boost map....

I believe it's a B18A1..

He's been tuning with Innovative's product.

turbohf 03-17-2004 02:03 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

oh i did ask that twice...my bad...

anyway how much boost is that tuned for? my maps look to have a little more fuel...so i put my ignition/fuel boost maps on those...off to go give it a try...

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

k, not working for me? at around 4K i get a revlimit thing WB says RICH...then LEAN.... same on my maps and the one posted...then it did the same idle ---- as before???

but now i have to go to work....i will deff mess with it more tonight when i get off :)

Parker, how come you don't jump down Dave's throat when he says "...for...issues with TE2"

Hehe...just playing.

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

my car is still not idling stable...it doesnt do it as bad as before, with the repeated ---- over and over....it will rev up to like 1400ish hold for a little bit then drop to 1000ish........ is this what its been doing for everyone else?

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

I had the same idle problem with the stable file too, but did anyone else notice how RICH (I mean RICH) the boost fuel was? I had to decrease it -26% to make it run normal.

Thanks Blundar

well this file is new, it supost to fix the idle....

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

----.......maybe my car is just ------ gay...loaded the new rom modifed with like the old booststable boost maps on his SOHC ZC turbo, idled fine, but every once in a while (after minutes) it would do a carb style idle kick down thing...anyway he was loving it, i think his car is slow :P running .4bar needs an intercooler...

oooooooo yeah! gonna try it out first thing tomorrow... the boost ignition map spposed to look like that? eh im not going to question you guys....freakin genius! hopefully it will work on my pr4.

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

Hey Bongnak, remember me...you sold me the PM6 on EBAY a few months back and I thought it didnt work...but it does and thanks again.

I also have a chipped PR4 and that is running better than the PM6...if you have a B18a like me shoot me an email and Ill send you my tune.

TurboHF...I have IACV and no issues...Parker is NOT stock like it seems you and I are. What motor are you running this on again?

TurboEF9 03-22-2004 11:12 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

My motor setup is ....far..... from being stock. But the ROM still runs great! ::)

90 B18A1 (automatic motor) ALL emissions ---- thrown away or blocked off. secondary ilde pos BLOCKED OFF...

88 Honda CRX HF, no wiring changes, running STOCK 88 HF engine harness from the car.

ECU? i have 3....90 PS9, 90 PM6 (from a wagon?), and a 90 PR4 (non-baro or whatever)...currently running the PS9...CEL: #19 (auto tranny is broken :-X)

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

Hahaha.. Dustin, I think your car is jinxed. :o

Dave even says there is something whacky with your wiring or something that makes your car not do thigns it's supposed to. :P

turbohf 03-22-2004 04:06 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

Issac's hatchback (the other car i turboed, the SOHC ZC) is doing the same ----...90 Si...90PM6

tried the new one that was posted and it still does it...seams a little better though it took like 2 mintutes for it to start doing it...

i remember someone a long while ago saying something about the 88 HF wiring harness being different or something??? anything true about that?

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

Well tested the chip and new ng2 bin. Since im only using the d15b7 i leaned out the vac fuel a liitle bit and copied the fuel boost map from the bin ive been using. The car idles perfectly at 750. it will try to idle a little high or low but then just moves back to 750, its great. launch control is working too! But! i havent tested it on the road yet so ill report back and see wat happens later today. thanks te2-crew

setup:
d15b7 mitsu tdo4hl
7psi
450cc
pr4 90' ecu
spools at 2 full boost at 2.5

NG3.bin?

turbohf 03-22-2004 06:09 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

sorry yeah the ng3.bin with my last 'booststable' map imported on it...

blundar 03-22-2004 06:32 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

I'm gonna walk home and try NG3 with my latest boosted maps. I was getting a high idle but it didn't bounce much with NG2. I've only got a couple hundred more lines of code to go through before I find what did it.

Turbohf, do you have a wideband? If so, what kind of AFRs are you running while idling? What kind of timing are you running? Are you positive your ignition timing is set right on the distributor? Have you tried advancing the timing 2-5 degrees at idle to smooth it out?

turbohf 03-22-2004 06:49 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

base timing should be at 18deg...i have a PLX WB yes... its kinda hard to tell what the AF's are when its not holding idle, it will go anywhere from rich to lean on its up and down ----...

i will go double check the timing right now...

turbohf 03-22-2004 08:53 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

timing is a soild 18deg....how did i get a 'soild'? i put a 10w 10ohm resistor on the iacv plug :-* so it seem to have fixed the idle problem...

AF's are in the 14.0-14.5 range at idle...

BUT...after a hard pull (a nice 1st-second tire screatcher) it will go back to its possesed up down ----.... its holding ~1500 and will fall to 1000... when it wasnt doing it, it would hold around 1500...

Bongnak 03-22-2004 11:56 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

yeah it didnt work for me didnt let me rev past 4 k even with launch control disabled... maybe because im using the 90 pr4??? anyways i didnt drive with the chip for that long but it did idle fine for time i had it in

turbohf 03-23-2004 12:09 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

did the same thing on my PR4...not a launch control problem though... it hit FULL RICH when sputtering out....

blundar 03-23-2004 01:17 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

I might not be the best guinea pig, but NG3 idled at 750 RPMs with my B18B + 450s. Granted, I have no O2 sensor connected but...

91 PM6
91 HF, HF weird sensors unpinned from ECU connector harness
97 B18B, stock.
450cc DSM
stock FPR, 255 walbro
timing on distributor set to whatever the ---- (i.e. no light)
map used was the one xenocron posted a while back... NG4 (which also ran fine) incorporates Chris's tune.

Give NG4 a try. If you are still having problems, please let me know so I can try to reproduce them.

turbohf 03-23-2004 01:25 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

umm...same setup as me it seems...

what are these sensors you speak of? as far as i know there is the EGR and maybe an extra purge valve?

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

reverse light, egr lift I think. my notes are in the car, will post later

Carnesd 03-23-2004 03:45 PM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

I burned the ng2 chip yesterday and it seemed to idle fine, except kinda high 1100. It was fine on the way to school this morning but halfway back it starts bouncing like on the stable rom. I just burned the ng4 rom and it seems to run perfect. a stable idle at 500 rpms. I drove it around for like 20 minutes to see if it would start bouncing but it didn't so seems to work.

Changing from accel to deccel is very smooth now and it runs alot better with the ng roms.

Good work
BTW this is on a pm6 running a na zc engine.

blundar 03-24-2004 01:49 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

thanks for the report!

turbohf 03-24-2004 02:16 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

so i have been driving around the last couple days with the resistored iacv, something i have noticed: idles solid for long periods of time fine, BUT if i do a nice ripper ('gross display of HP'...lots of boost) when i get back down to speed it will start its eratic idle..think i have the ng4.bin loaded up...

im starting to think that the iacv might not like boost? even on the old bin's it would do a serious lopping idle after a good run in 2nd or 3rd...

btw dont say not to rape on my car then there is no problem, thats why i have my car the way it is :P

surfer 03-24-2004 03:16 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

looks like i'm going against the flow here but the original stable rom in my PP5 ECU idles solid at 1100 RPM the only problem i had with it was the use of light throttle, driving in town produces lots of anger! as it would jerk/buck a lot, also i noticed that if i were to drive slowly and put the clutch in whilst the car was moving the idle would bounce quite badly, the sort of bouncing you are all talking about, but when i came to a standstill it would be ok and idle solid. Anyhow I just got the fucker back on the road last night so i'm going to test out these other bins later and let you know how each one does.

Bongnak 03-24-2004 04:59 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

apperently its working pretty well for me. It idles low but im sure its because of the ilde screw, screwed with the screw so i just have to adjust that hopefully that will get to 750. now its just the one problem with running rich right after 0 vac into boost or else this is a cherry setup thanks!

woohoo i love hondas
if you have a similar setup as mine email me and ill send you my bin, thats the least i can do

88crxSi 03-24-2004 09:21 AM

Re:Partial fix for idle issues with TE2

Dustin, check your idle screw. Take her all the way out and put some sealent on it. some1 on HT had the same symptoms as u.
