p28 crome. tuner gurus.. welcome.

I have stock z6 in my 98 civic dx hatch. obd2a-obd1 conversion harness to chipped p28 with basemap from ------------- bin.

So the problem is.. Car runs well but no low-end at all.. is it because I have no back pressure..? I have straight downpipe 3" and colder side of the charge pipe is 2 1/4 and hotter side of the turbo is 1 3/4 or 2.

My question is.. could I adjust the map to make it run better? also when I turn on the a/c I lose major power from 2k~4k. Car barely makes uphill and stuff. I just started chipping my own ECU and try tuning it.. but without any A/F gauge. I have the VW GTI sensor and all.. but just waiting on JAW to start selling their ---- again. whatever.. so anyways, any advice?

Well yea, you need to tune it.

baby dick turbo.. .42 .48 garrett off of volvo or saab I think.

When the ac is off it drives okay.. I mean no power still yet but when I turn the ac on.. like there is no torque at all.. the rpm will very slow till about 2.5 then it's like vtec ON power starts coming.. is that normal?

Has it been tuned?

negative.. noobie in training. I just bought the hulog for dataloggin and trying to get some wideband display somewhere to see how my car is running. Just trying to see if I can tweak the map in the mean time to run it a little better.

Well yes, that's exactly what you have to do. You can't expect a car to run perfectly on a basemap, or there would be no need for tuners.

i still think it would have some power. Ive never seen a car run that bad on a basemap.. My guess is something else is fucked up. How much vacuum does it pull? Compression test? If it can barely make it up a hill, thats a problem.

compression was 150~140 all 4. vacuum is about 20~19 @ idle without the ac on and when ac is one.. it's @ 17~16. I mean when it boost it pulls.. maybe I'm running too rich..?

as far as tuning goes.. do I just select the grids and change them one by one?

Re: p28 crome. tuner gurus.. welcome.

140 sounds a little low for a d15 but not bad enough to cause that poor of performance.

Excessively rich mixture will cause it to be slow.. and if its real bad you can get gas in your oil which is no good. I wouldnt change anything at all without a wideband hooked up to the car. And if its running as bad as you say, i wouldnt drive it anymore untill i found out what was going on.

Did you ---- with the timing belt at all?

Re: p28 crome. tuner gurus.. welcome.

My Ignition was reading -6? I tried hooking up the hulog ---- but I'm still in the process of figuring that ---- out to work properly.. cuz it's not reading anything else. should I advance the timing a little? I know it's running pretty rich cuz it backfires alot and when let go of the gas while driving. ugh..

a d15 should have 16.5* total timing at idle (i think). if you have a timing gun, thats a good place to start. If you dont know what your doing with the datalogging yet, dont rely on that information to be accurate. My car backfires when i let off the gas too

Get your hulog ---- running properly first. There are guides on pgmfi.org that can help you through it, although it isn't really that difficult, it can be finicky sometimes. Then you can really see whats going on. Is it misfiring or breaking up at all?
