Just a random thought here...

I see posts on the management forum about people who want other people to burn chips for them even thought they have the burner and whatnot. Basically the person doesn't want or know how to learn the programs( I'm not into it yet, going from fmu to maphack to play around). Even though i'm not into the whole chipping thing (yet), I do realize that it's hard to tune a car from across the country...

Anyway here's my idea, online tuning...

say whenever the real time tuning gets perfected
one person could hook up the car with a laptop then connect to the internet, supply the "online tuner" with a few specs and the online tuner sets up a table or whatever. The person test drives the car and reports back whether it was better or worse...

the online tuner could be paid by the person for their time and they get more experience, the person with the car could watch the tuner's progress on the'r moniter to get what's going on and what do do whenevr they feel comfortable with the process etc..

just an idea.

To do that you would need to have a wireless dialup modem and some sort of VPN PC Anywhere software...thats a lot of software licenses to buy and/or find and troubleshoot the install of those products alone.

I think a better idea is a database of tunes...DETAILED engine setups and parts descriptions matched to a well-detailed tune.

This sharing is much cheaper.

I think that we need more users using and learning before we find a dramaticly easy way to spoon feed the needy.

windows xp has remote desktop built in. unfortunately the owner of the computer cant see what the remote user is doing. there are other programs that you can get out there that allow you to watch your screen while other people are ------- with it... i have one of them, i dont remember the name tho.

If you buy a McLaren F1, there is a plug for a normal laptop. and from any place of the world. The Main McLaren Technicians can diagnose the car.
eg: if you blow your engine===> specs will see on there computer some malfunctions on all the cylinder.. WTF? ;)

I think this would be an awesome idea. I would love to be in control of somebody else's fuel management in real time. I'd wait for them to reach max boost, take all the fuel out of it and BOOM! Real time engine destruction. And the best part is, I wouldn't care cause it wasn't my car. ;)

an 802.11x connection with TightVNC would do it. You can get a wireless router and card for about $50, I just picked one up a couple weeks ago. Trust me, it's worth $50.. wireless rules. TightVNC is a free remote desktop program. I use it to administer my servers at work and it's pretty good for free. I remember hearing about Jason doing TE work that way, so it's not too far off the path to be feasible. Just remind me not to let Whitey work on my car ;)

A wireless connection is good...but the tuner is only gonna be able to do work when the car is 50' away. What happens when the car is at full boost on highway?
