OBD2-->OBD1 ?
 

Ok, I hate to ask it, cause it kinda feels like one of those noOb type questions, but I have been searching the site and can't seem to find any info. I think my ketword skills suck!! My buddy is putting together a HMT style kit for his 99EX at the same time I am working on mine for my 91 hatch. He is highly concerned about management and I am trying to convince him to convert to OBD1 and use Uberdata. I am not sure what is involved in the conversion and what would be involved in going back and forth between OBD1 & 2 because we have emissions check here in Ohio. I thought I read something about being able to make little sub-harness type adapters that could let him switch back and forth, but I can't seem to find any of that stuff now. Anybody that has any links/eperience with this, the info would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah all you need is a conversion harness that goes for about $115 or so. It just plugs into your OBD2 ecu's plugs and has plugs at the other end to insert into an OBD-1 ecu. I'll see if I can find some to show you. Also if your friends EX has a 3 wire IACV I beleive he's going to need to convert to a 2 wire.

Even less than I thought they sell for. Anyway going OBD-1 and running Uberdata would be his best bet. And for getting your emmissions sticker, unless you know someone who can "hook you up" ;), you'll probably end up having to remove the turbokit and swap back to the OBD2 ecu to pass. They check to see if theres any codes in the ecu.
I ran into this problem last year. They went to check the codes in my 2000 Integra thinking it was still OBD2... I told them it was converted to OBD1 and he had to put his 98 Camaro on the code reader just so they could enter the info in the computer that there were no codes thrown ;) nice to have some help out there getting stickers.

Ok, so other than the IACV (if it is different), he will not have to change injectors or anthing like that? Pretty sure he is gonna stay around 6-7 lbs, so stock injectore would probably be fine. I did not think there was that much to worry about. So come e-check time, we can switch ecu's back and maybe lock the wastegate open so he builds no boost and they can check it. Not sure how they do e-checks anywhere else, but OBD2 ---- just gets plugged into the diagnostic port and they do a gas cap pressure check. Thanks Trance and anybody else that replies.

OBD2 and OBD1 uses the same impedence injectors, but stock injectors will not be sufficient for boost.

I figured if he was staying down around 6-7 lbs, he would be ok. It's not like it is a big deal to swap injectors at echeck time, so if he has to run some 450's or something, it should not be a big deal.

You know what is really fucked up, I think I read that god damn post, cause I remember the part where Kevin said he would not try to open the IAB on an ECU he was doing for someone else. Eh, I'm old, I don't always catch everything, lol.

Yes I suppose you technically could get away with that ZC4ME. Around here in MA. they also do a visual check and I guarantee you if they saw a turbo sitting under the hood of my Honda... I'd get a big fat F

Also, Boost is right about the injectors. They will be the same as long as their OBD1-OBD2 injectors, but they will not flow enough to support 6-8 lbs. of boost. I'd just look into some 450's. They run great using Uberdata and you'll be all set if you ever want to turn up that turbo pressure. I know you will :D

Yea, they only really check to see if the car has a cat on it. They hold a mirror up under the car. So as long as jst swapping those things back and making sure the turbo will creat no boost, the car should run fine and visually it should pass. As far as the IACV, I should be able to get some plugs and make an adapter harness that we could unplug so the original IACV would plug back on, right?
