obd0 ecu question.

do obd0 ecus in order to be chipped have to be 90-91? im just looking to chip any like pm7,pm6,pr3, i dont want to go through the hassle or 88-89's i know on the pm6 88-89 its a pain, is this so with other obd0 ecu's?
