Default OBD0 datalogging problems

I purchased xenocrons USB-serial converter for datalogging. After several days, I ahve worked out a couple problems and now almost have it working like it should. My problems beforehand were XP related. It wouldnt automatically insall teh software for the converter, so I installed software (driver) for it that Chris gave me. Well after a couple days of that not working I uninstalled teh drivers he sent me and tried once more to get XP to install software by itself and it did. The converter showed up where it should in teh device manager and now teh light at TX and RX light up like they should.

Problem 1) When trying to use FreeLog from pgmfi.org all I get are timeouts and tons of flashing from teh TX light on teh board.

Problem 2) When trying to datalog in BRE, if I have power to teh ECU the program freezes and shows no values. When I cut power to the ECU (turn ignition back) the RX light flashes also with the TX light, and BRE shows some values, but of course they are false, b/c the car is not running. If I turn the key to ON, the RX light stops flashing and again the program freezes, until I turn the key off.

Anyone know what might be the problem? Chris has been trying to help me out, but I'm tired of bothering him soo much. It's not his fault this crap isnt working for me, so I dont want to make him deal with it anymore.

I want to download ECUControl to try it out and see if it's just a program error, but ECUControl is down again, and I cant get teh program...

Thanks for any help offered.

I have never played with frelog but have always wanted too. Maybe tomorrow I will get around to it and see how my results come out.
