O2 Sensors
 

How does an O2 sensor exactly work? And what.. besides sensing O2 does it do? A lot of the tuning programs... Uber, soon to be TE, have O2 sensor disable built into them as an option. Why would you want this?

Also, right now i'm using the O2 sensor from a MX-6 right now soldered onto my old O2 sensor wire. Should there be any problems?
It sounds kind of weird, but I don't know if it's working.... My ecu is throwing the code 1, but it's not showing up as a CEL. (I'm running a TE basemap). hmmm.

this isnt really a GD topic, you shoulda picked engine management.

the mx-6 o2 sensor shouldnt give you any trouble, they're pretty universal.

The ecu uses the output from the O2 sensor to trim your injector pulsewidth such that the engine runs at a stoich air-fuel ratio. When it sees a lean condition it adds fuel, and vice-versa. This is all fine and dandy until you throw in unexpected factors such as boost and people changing the fuel maps around.

During part-throttle conditions with a small turbo, 6-7 psi isn't uncommon at highway speeds. If the O2 sensor is left to do its thing, don't be too surprised when you see afrs in the neighborhood of 16:1; this is because it's trying its hardest to trim you back to stoich while the tables are wanting things to be rich.

This is also why you would shut it off for general tuning purposes; it's fairly difficult to get your maps nailed while at the same time playing tug-o-war with the ecu.

As for your O2 code, did you reset the ecu? Codes like to linger in there long after the dash light thinks everything is cool.
